Paint me a picture! My favorite piece of art is a photograph of a Stargazer Lily (my favorite flower) that hangs in my guest bathroom. I hope I win because I’m dying for a new painting to hang over my bed!

My favorite picture is one that my husband gave me as a wedding present. He took a picture of the bench that he proposed to me on and then sent it to a local artist to create a charcoal paiting. It is just beautiful!!!

My favorite piece of artwork I own right now is a Kurt Halsey print of a bat – I’ve always wanted to own a Kurt Halsey original, but I haven’t been able to afford one yet. I love him, Mark Ryden, Gris Grimley, and most of all, Sylvia Ji!

My favorite piece of artwork was a gift from a talented friend that we received as a wedding gift. It’s a small abstract done in green and it takes a minute for you to realize that it has our names plus a wedding ring entwined in it. (31 years later..thank you again Sheila!)

    PAINT ME A PICTURE

My parents lived next to a Native American artist when I was first born. When I was just a little thing he painted me an abstract painting titled “Alexis Looking”. I have had that painting hanging in every one of my bedrooms since receiving it. I love that I have a piece of art I can truly call my own.

My favorite homemade piece is simple sheet of scrap paper I framed and hung in our bathroom. I loved the design and planned to use it in the background of something, but it turned out to be a great little picture on its own!

We don’t have “real” art in our house…I have prints that we picked up from a hotel sale, prints from Pier One, etc… We don’t struggle to pay the bills, but if I had to choose between spending $350 on artwork or to get my car fixed, well, the car wins.

So my favorite one of a kind is two framed colorings that I have hung in my office that my boys did. I asked for them to color pictures for me for Mother’s Day. One is of underwater monsters – one is of a very patriotic crab boat (a la Dangerous Catch!). I love them, won’t change them o ut as the boys get odler and can color (or draw) much better. Nope, these will be around until my boys are 60!

    PAINT ME A PICTURE!

In college as a theatre major, I was directing a show where the main character was an artist and at the end of the play paints a picture of her elderly parents who are moving. Instead of painting a realistic portrayal of them, she paints an elaborate interpretation of them with bright colors and bold strokes. To make a long story longer…

I asked my Art Ed friend to paint a picture for me for this directing project. It’s amazing and one of my most treasured paintings. No only is it just a neat painting of two people but it represents my friend, my college experience and theatre, all, of which, I deeply love.

Paint me a picture!! My favorite piece so far is a little photograph taken by my good friend Audrey, who is one of the best photographers I know. It’s a red berried branch on a rainy day on our college campus, covered in water drops. Such a simple little picture, but so beautiful and peaceful and a reminder of good friends and the simple beauty all around us!

I bought a very whimsical piece of art in Quebec City about 5 years ago. It’s a funny painting of cats celebrating a birthday and is one of a kind. I paid an enormous sum of money for my then 22-year-old self but I still love it and am so glad I bought it.

My absolute favorite piece of art, a true one of a kind, is a hand painted horror purchased from my favorite Richmond area thrift store for no more than $5. I have never seen a more technically horrible painting in my life- the proportions are so skewed, the people are only depicted in profile, the horizon line is absolutely absurd, the coloration makes little to no sense, and it’s title, “Making Apple Butter”, is shakily written in the bottom center of the piece. Framed in wood and hung in my room, this ridiculous painting makes me smile every single day. Best $5 investment I ever made! :)

My favorite painting I own is a painting my friend did for me. It is the Sunset, with the big sun in the background and shadows of three birds. They represent my grandmother, my cousin, and my best friend who all died within six months of each other. It is the most meaningful/beautiful painting I own!
