Fab Freebie: Paint Me A Picture

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – scroll down to see who won!***

The winner of this week’s giveaway can literally make that request. Because Swedish-born Virginia-based artist Erica Eriksdotter is giving away a commissioned painting worth up to $350. That’s right everyone, put on your fancy pants because soon you could be telling your friends smugly “oh yeah, that beautiful painting over there? I commissioned it.”

Eriksdotter Skyline

Eriksdotter Grey Petals

We really like the color in all of Erica’s work, and we love that our winner will be able to guide the color and design of their custom work to fit their home perfectly. You can even pick the best size for your space (from a 12 x 9″ up to 16 x 20″). Here’s how to enter:

  • PRIZE: A commissioned painting from Studio Eriksdotter worth up to $350
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT ME A PICTURE!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us about your favorite piece of one-of-a-kind artwork that you currently own. Maybe it’s a finger painting done by a kid in your life? Something you got on etsy? Or a drawing that you sketched yourself to fill some blank space?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 24th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States, Canada and Europe!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

******************************

Not only do we have one winner, but everyone can get 10% off of anything from Studio Eriksdotter through Dec 9th. Use the code YOUNGHOUSELOVE for any stationery purchase in her Etsy shop or you can contact her directly for art inquiries.

And our very lucky winner (as selected by random.org) is… Ali Moore. Congrats!

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Studio Eriksdotter.

My fave piece of art is one that we got as a wedding present. It’s a little picture of a house with a giant satellite dish on top of it. It’s so cute and quirky and from one of my best friends. The Artist is Andrew King-check him out.

My favorite one of a kind art is a “map installation” I created for my son’s room. We went to visit my sister in NYC last year, when he was 3. Like most little boys, he absolutely LOVED the subway. He especially loved stopping at the big subway maps hanging in the stations. After a few days he could point out all the important stuff- Auntie’s house, the airport, the Central Park Zoo. Before we left I picked up a few extra maps & when we got home I cut one into 6 squares & hung them in square CLIPS frames from IKEA in a 2×3 grid. The best part is that the maps have since changed, so now we can call it vintage =)

My favorite piece of art is a pencil drawing of the corner of a beautiful old building in Paris. I was walking along the Seine and spotted the artist sketching….it was the perfect gift to bring home for my architect husband.

I like to draw on occasions, but my 21 month old would color and all day everyday. She loves to color. So one day while she was working on a masterpiece for her mommy and me, I decided to use her crowns and draw her enjoying the moment. I really enjoyed drawing her while she did something she enjoys so much.

PAINT ME A PICTURE! I bought an original piece from a high school friend – it’s huge, with large blocks of bright orange and ochre, but a little white bird softens it up. I love it.

we don’t have any originals to speak of, other than the few wedding photos, my fave is one that just shows my mine and my husbands hands in a watercolor style – it is personal enough but could really be an art piece not so much a self portrait.

My favorite painting is a painting my husband bought from a homeless man who was walking along our local bike path. He gave it to my husband for free but my husband insisted on paying him. In return for being paid the homeless man also gave my husband his prized bolt. I had the picture framed, it is an abstract painting and he signed the back, named it and dated it. I get lots of compliments on it. We have never seen this man again, but we do cherish the painting and hope all is well with him.

PAINT ME A PICTURE! I unfortunately don’t have any custom art in my home, only a TON of original photographs taken by my talented beau. While the photographs are gorgeous, I still definitely need some original art to adorn the walls of my new place. Love that this one can be a custom design too! :)

My favorite drawing is one my husband did when he was a young teenager. We found it under his bed in his parents house when we were home visiting one Christmas. Its a pencil drawing of a monster, but when you look closely the monster has sweet, soulful eyes and is hopefully lifting up a bouquet of flowers. Its the cutest, Adamms family-ish drawing and it sits on my dresser now where the monster offering his bouquet of flowers greets me every morning as I get dressed for work. :)

My sister and I went to Bali this summer and I bought my first original painting. We rolled the canvas (to make it easier to take home) and had it professionally stretched and remounted – I was shocked that stretching/framing cost as much as the art itself – but I love having something unique and original in our apartment.

My favorite pieces of custom artwork is the mural I painted in my daughter’s necessary of a giant peacock with multicolored plumes draped over a branch over her crib. It is not a cartoon but rather a more realistic rendition. I hope that she will enjoy the colors and her bird friend as she grows in the room.

Currently, the only one of a kind stuff I have is DIY (that’s still art, right?) But I recently learned a valuable lesson about hesitating and *not* buying affordable art you are *obsessed* with- someone else will and you will be heart broken for eternity. Seriously. What was I thinking.
