  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 24th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One

My fav right now is a piece by my son. He did it around age 8 and is now 16. It is very vibrant, reds/blacks, and very abstract and loud. It is very detailed and artistic. I have it framed and hanging in our office.

We bid on a huge painting for our entry way at a charity auction. After much stalking throughout the night, we had the highest bid. Love the piece — and love knowing that the money went to a great cause.

I have a collection of artwork from my son created during elementary art classes. I am super excited, though, about two portraits of our dogs that I have ordered from an Etsy artist to be Christmas gifts for my husband. I can’t wait until they’re ready.

My favorite (and my only) piece of artwork is a small painting of red peonies that my mom picked up for us when we moved into our house. Our living room furniture is red, so I have yet to come across the perfect piece of art for the space, but if I win I just know it will work perfectly! ;o)

    PAINT ME A PICTURE!

My favorite piece of art at the moment is something I created for our first apartment when we first moved in. We had tons of blank wall space and weren’t allowed to paint so I took brochures from local art shows, cut out pieces (or pieces of pieces) that I liked and arranged them collage style on a piece of (of all things) a cut up cardboard moving box. To give it some texture and depth since I knew I wouldn’t be framing it, I mounted some of the pieces on more stacked pieces of the moving box before sticking it in place so some would stand out away from the surface. Modestly :) it turned out pretty awesome and it’s still hanging over our bed. I would have no problem, however, with switching it out for a GORGEOUS piece by Erica!

My husband and I are newly married and have not accumulated much original pieces of art yet, but we do have an awesome piece that was given to us as a wedding gift. One of our friends is an artist and he made us a wall sculpture – it’s a skull formed from hanger wire and then covered in a stretchy, red fabric, sewn together in pieces. It’s the coolest thing on our walls, hands down, and a great conversation piece!

My husband’s grandpa was an artist, and we recently acquired a clock he made out of a piece of wood and ceramic. It’s very unusual and a great conversation starter! It’s also very heavy, so we’re trying to figure out the best way to hang it without creating a huge hole(s) in the wall, since we live in an apt and management doesn’t like huge holes in their walls.

The Woodland style original painting my my husband I spent all day deciding on whether to buy in Tofino, BC when we really shouldn’t justify buying anything that cost what it did. It hangs on our living room wall and every day, I’m reminded of the moment we decided that sometimes you kind of just have to say screw the budget when you realize you really want something you’ll love forever.

I once watched a neighbor’s cat, and as a trade she drew my portrait (she’s in art school). It’s a simple pencil sketch that took her only about 10 minutes, but it’s a nice reminder of a sweet, unexpected conversation. Seeing it encourages me to reach out to new friends.

My favorite picture was one we made. When my son was 2, we rubbed our right hands in different colored paint and put them on a poster board. I wrote our names (mommy, daddy and baby) under each of them. After it dried, we framed it. We actually need to make an updated one with our daughters handprint too!
