My favorite original is a beautiful green based painting that my oldest son painted for me when he was 3. He is now 8 and it hangs in our kitchen. Erica Eriksdotter’s work is absolutely beautiful. I would love to have one in our home!

My fave pieces of art are the trio of small canvases I had my ONE YEAR OLDS paint when I stopped working in daycare. They are beautiful and unique, and since they’re actually on canvas it lends more of a high art feel than a “I painted this with my fingers” look. :D
Plus, I’m having an art party for my birthday in two weeks… having all my friends come over and paint small canvases to adorn my HUGE loft walls.

My favorite piece of artwork is one I did of my puppy. I spent a lot of time on it and it’s a great reminder of when he was so young his foot pads were still pink instead of rough and gray. Other than that, I just have photos and no artwork.

PAINT ME A PICTURE! Hmmm… I have two favorite pieces in our house. One is a MoseT Lion. I’ve never seen another lion he’s painted, and it is just gorgeous. Another is my four angels by Donny Sasser, another Alabama artist. We won it at our church’s silent auction, and it is an image of our hopeful future family (us with two babies!).

PAINT ME A PICTURE!
Several years ago, my husband and I were visiting Portland, Oregon and we went to the Saturday Market, which is an awesome arts & craft fair/flea market that takes place every Saturday in downtown Portland. We fell in love with the paintings of a particular artist, however the prices were more than we were looking to spend that day. In the back of her booth, we found a painting that had been set aside as a damaged piece. The canvas had been stretched in one place so it formed sort of a bubble. It was half the price of the other painings! We decided to buy it and try to restretch the canvas after we got it home. So, we took it to a mail place and had it packaged and sent to our house. Amazingly, when we got home and unwrapped it, the bubble was gone! Completely vanished! We figure maybe the air pressure in flight helped the canvas settle back down. So, in the end we got a perfect painting that we love for half the price!

My favourite pic is one that my grandma gave to me. It was done by a friend of hers, and is of the town she lived in, and I now live in. The colours are beautiful, and them memory of grandma is kept alive everytime I look at it.

My favorite piece of unique art would be a little painting by Andrea Danner-Shultz (a Richmonder) that I picked up at a arts fair here in Cville. It’s so cheerful…I just have to find a place to put it!
My favorite non-original is my print of Olivia by John Matthew Moore (originally from Savannah, currently living in Northern Virginia). When I finally bought her, I blogged about it and Moore’s father actually commented on the post!

My favourite piece of art is an original oil painting that’s in our foyer of vibrantly coloured tulips. I love the painting, but even more meaningful is the sentimental value: it was a graduation gift from my parents to me when I completed my master’s degree.

We’ve got a hideous photo collage of my boyfriend’s family that makes them all look like serial killers, and a painting of peppers that I stole from my parents. Everyone loves the peppers, including my parents, who loved it so much that they bought it from the artist before he could finish the background! I don’t know how I managed to get it out of their place and into mine.

Erica’s work is terrific. I love the bright colors against the black — you can tell that she is from the land of the midnight sun.
My own art collection is small but well loved. I recently purchased a watercolor from a Boston artist who travels to Cape Cod and paints from the artists’ huts at the National Seashore. What I love about this piece is I love how I feel when I look at it and I know the story behind the painting.
The painting is of her hut’s door and hanging on it is a pair of lobsterman rain pants with a saw resting beside the door. The colors are all rustic browns and warm grays and red with the yellow rain pants taking center stage. I am drawn to this painting because it reminds me of a Wyeth I saw at the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland, Maine. My painting captures a moment — the hard work of fishing and putting up wood for the winter in the outside world countered by the warmth of life inside.
