Paint me a picture! I have several favorite pieces in my house. One is a finger painting my 4 year old daughter made. I had it framed and get compliments on it all the time. I also love three painting on canvas I did for my son’s room. He had a large wall that needed something so I bought some canvases from Michael’s, found some images I liked and recreated them with acrylic paint on canvas.

PAINT ME A PICTURE! My favorite one-of-a-kind is something my husband drew when he was about 8. It’s a volcano with streams of molten lava flowing down the sides. Supposedly. It actually looks like an upright boob with stretch marks. It lives on our fridge and brings a smile to my day, every day

My favorite art is picture purchased from a local artist – it is unique and painted on a piece of wood. Needless to say, it’s skull theme means my grandmother was not a fan.

My favorite, and well really, my only unique work of art (I haven’t really been able to splurge on art lately) is a large black and white photograph of the new river bridge in west virginia. Fog, surrounding it, sun barely showing through the clouds. It is absolutely breath-taking and worth every penny.

I actually have two favorites–my brother-in-law is an artist and his works are amazing. I have two of his bird pieces, but I wish I lived closer so I could snag even more (he’s on the west coast and I’m on the east coast; plus, his paintings are done on wood so they’re kind of heavy): http://artjeremiah.com/

    PAINT ME A PICTURE

My current favorite-One of a Kind painting is a wonderful piece of art created by a woman who lives in Southern Nepal. When I was 18 I took off on a solo adventure through India and Nepal and ended up in this small village where the women traditionally painted these colorful murals on the sides of their houses. This is an particularly poor part of Nepal and opportunities for women are very limited. They had worked with some international NGOs to start a artists network where they painted on paper similar to their traditional murals and then the NGO works to connect them with a larger market. I had the opportunity to meet the woman who created my artwork and her family and she told me that her job empowered her to leave a unhealthy relationship. The painting is beautiful and reminds me of my idealistic, adventurous younger self (all characteristics I preserve in my older more mature self)

“PAINT ME A PICTURE!” My favorite piece of artwork in my home is my 3 year olds handprints from Church last summer. Above his hands reads “We use our hands for God’s work”. He loves it too! He constantly points it out and comments about it being his hands for God!

    PAINT ME A PICTURE!!

I actually have a lot of original artwork in my apartment. A lot of people in my family are very artistic. But my favorite piece is one that was done by my grandfather when he was young. It’s oil on canvas in a really old, gold – tacky yet also antique? – frame of three fisherman on a dock. The colors are still really vibrant and he was incredibly talented. Everyone in my family has something that was painted by him.

He passed away 15 years ago, so it means a lot to me.

My favorite one of a kind piece of artwork is a painting of a toucan I got in San Ignacio, Belize when I was teaching in a school there in 2009.
