Fab Freebie: Paint Me A Picture

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – scroll down to see who won!***

The winner of this week’s giveaway can literally make that request. Because Swedish-born Virginia-based artist Erica Eriksdotter is giving away a commissioned painting worth up to $350. That’s right everyone, put on your fancy pants because soon you could be telling your friends smugly “oh yeah, that beautiful painting over there? I commissioned it.”

Eriksdotter Grey Petals

We really like the color in all of Erica’s work, and we love that our winner will be able to guide the color and design of their custom work to fit their home perfectly. You can even pick the best size for your space (from a 12 x 9″ up to 16 x 20″). Here’s how to enter:

  • PRIZE: A commissioned painting from Studio Eriksdotter worth up to $350
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT ME A PICTURE!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us about your favorite piece of one-of-a-kind artwork that you currently own. Maybe it’s a finger painting done by a kid in your life? Something you got on etsy? Or a drawing that you sketched yourself to fill some blank space?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 24th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States, Canada and Europe!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

******************************

Not only do we have one winner, but everyone can get 10% off of anything from Studio Eriksdotter through Dec 9th. Use the code YOUNGHOUSELOVE for any stationery purchase in her Etsy shop or you can contact her directly for art inquiries.

And our very lucky winner (as selected by random.org) is… Ali Moore. Congrats!

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Studio Eriksdotter.

    Paint me a picture!!

My favorite piece of art is an original watercolor of the St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans. My aunt bought it from a street artist in Jackson Square and had it framed as a wedding gift for me and my husband. We were going to be living in
New Orleans once we were married and she wanted us to have a taste of the local art. 6 months after our wedding she passed away suddenly. The painting is a constant reminder of her joyous, special and creative personality and I love have a little piece of her in our home.

“PAINT ME A PICTURE!” Right now my fave piece of art is hanging on the door from the garage to the kitchen. A “Happy Birthday” sign handmade by my 2 sons. After an 11-hour day at work yesterday, it was the best thing to come home to.

    PAINT ME A PICTURE

A vintage mirror with some pretty ugly greens, browns and yellows. On it are two owls sitting on a branch and one hanging upside down. Above them it reads, “Nobody’s Perfect!” It is not the prettiest piece of work but for some reason I love it.

    PAINT ME A PICTURE!

My current favorite is a series of framed peices of art that my daughter created for her birthday. She used magic markers to wish me a happy birthday by writing words on each page and adding pictures. I framed each sheet of paper and hung them in a grouping. All hung together they create a special message from my girl to me!

My favourite picture is one that my boyfriend commissioned for my birthday a few years ago. It’s painted from a photograph of me walking along a seaside promenade as the sun is setting. It’s not only a beautiful picture, but it’s a wonderful memory that I can think of whenever I look at the painting.

My husband and I actually only own 1 piece of original art work and it’s a Dracula Owl on a tiny block of wood. You see we love art work but we can never afford to buy it. It’s something that we hope we are able to do someday when we have enough money. Even though the Dracula Owl is out only piece we do love it and it was a big deal when we purchased it.

    PAINT ME A PICTURE!!!!!!

Right now, my favorite piece of original artwork is a copper sculpture of a branch of maple leaves by Stan Dinwoodie. The different leaves have been treated with different patinas, so there is a riot of red, orange, gold and even a little green. It is stunning. It was left to me by my grandfather, along with a grandfather clock he made (which is also a piece of art.)
