***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – scroll down to see who won!***

The winner of this week’s giveaway can literally make that request. Because Swedish-born Virginia-based artist Erica Eriksdotter is giving away a commissioned painting worth up to $350. That’s right everyone, put on your fancy pants because soon you could be telling your friends smugly “oh yeah, that beautiful painting over there? I commissioned it.”

We really like the color in all of Erica’s work, and we love that our winner will be able to guide the color and design of their custom work to fit their home perfectly. You can even pick the best size for your space (from a 12 x 9″ up to 16 x 20″). Here’s how to enter:

  • PRIZE: A commissioned painting from Studio Eriksdotter worth up to $350
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT ME A PICTURE!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us about your favorite piece of one-of-a-kind artwork that you currently own. Maybe it’s a finger painting done by a kid in your life? Something you got on etsy? Or a drawing that you sketched yourself to fill some blank space?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 24th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States, Canada and Europe!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

I love the little original art piece we bought in a little mining town called Bisbee, in Arizona. It’s of a girl that is partially painted and partially cut paper.

    PAINT ME A PICTURE!…

…my fiance’s mom has recently gotten into making custom light switch plate covers. To celebrate moving into our new house, she designed a few to complement our wall colors. It adds a little bit of pizzazz to our otherwise bare walls.

Two years ago my hubby and I picked up a small oil painting of a bulldog. I don’t think it was a coincidence that our baby bulldog looks EXACTLY like that painting. :)

PAINT ME A PICTURE!…. My favorite piece of original art is a framed printout of a tree my husband and I had our wedding guests use as our guestbook. Guests pressed their thumbs into different green ink pads and made up the leaves of our leafless tree print. Everytime I look at it I think of our special day.

    PAINT ME A PICTURE!

Last year at my company Christmas party, we were paired up and asked to make portraits of our partners. My partner created a mixed media piece in my likeness that uses such materials as lace, cotton balls, buttons – even wintergreen Lifesavers. Love it, and its displayed proudly in my living room.

    Paint me a picture!

My husband’s grandmother is a professional photographer, and has won several photography contests. She gave us a print of her latest prize-winning photo: a tree growing through the roof of an old, abandoned truck. I love the composition of the photo, and it’s such a unique, artsy print. It’s especially meaningful since it was taken by someone we care dearly about!

PAINT ME A PICTURE! My favorite piece of art is a clock I painted directly onto my wall. My mom gave me a cute vinyl decal clock. It featured the whole birdsie branchie motiv. It was cute, but the colors didn’t work. So I painted over it, and removed the decals and was left with this cool, one-of-a-kind permanent clock on my wall. If I ever move, I swear I’m going to cut on the drywall to take it with me.

We are currently in the midst of redecorating our house, so our house is very boring right now, especially in the art department. We would love to have a piece that was commissioned for us and would be the centerpiece in our living room.

    PAINT ME A PICTURE!

My favorite piece of artwork here in our home is a small, simple painting my husband did for me when we were in our early years of dating. It is a heart hanging by a string, with words on the back of the canvas saying, “You are my heart-string.” It was his creative way of telling me that he knows I am there for him, holding him together, in the good times and the bad. I love it!

We are blessed to have a few original pieces of artwork in our home by my favorite artist – none other than the talented Emilie Hobert, aka, my incredibly talented former college roommate :) She gave my husband and I one of her senior project pieces as a wedding present, and we LOVE it. She works a lot in encaustics (melted wax and paint). LOVE LOVE LOVE her :)

My favorite piece is a painting of a little white teapot on a blue background with yellow flowers coming out of the top. It’s painted on a little piece of wood maybe three inches wide. I was admiring it at a vendor table (but I was completely broke and knew I could hardly afford a thumbtack to hold it). A stranger came up and said, “which one do you like?” I pointed to the teapot. He bought it, handed it to me, said “enjoy!” and walked away.

Paint me a picture! This is great! I comissioned a piece once for my sister – based on a story I wrote about our childhood together…climbing on hay bales, riding bikes and our rock garden. It even had the butter flavored Crisco which we used to “polish” our rocks. Bums me out that she’s never bothered to frame it and hang it. Should have kept it for me.

    PAINT ME A PICTURE!!!!

My favorite piece of art is one I stumbled upon in a friends garage… and they were about to throw it away!! It’s in pretty great shape considering it was in a basement for over 20 years- which breaks my heart! It is too lovely to to hide. It is an impressionist style seascape with boats off in the distance and native people walking ashore with baskets and arms full. There is a huge storm cloud in the background as the sun sets behind it. So not only was it free, and it resembles my favorite artist (JMW Turner)- but it also reminds me of Andros Island, Bahamas where I go every summer as a part of a Mission Project with the gorgeous island people there. I can barely make out the artist but it seems to dated to 1964. It is a true treasure to me- if my house was on fire it would be the first thing I grab!!! It is about 24in x 48in. and it is nestled on our mantle.
