***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – scroll down to see who won!***

The winner of this week’s giveaway can literally make that request. Because Swedish-born Virginia-based artist Erica Eriksdotter is giving away a commissioned painting worth up to $350. That’s right everyone, put on your fancy pants because soon you could be telling your friends smugly “oh yeah, that beautiful painting over there? I commissioned it.”

We really like the color in all of Erica’s work, and we love that our winner will be able to guide the color and design of their custom work to fit their home perfectly. You can even pick the best size for your space (from a 12 x 9″ up to 16 x 20″). Here’s how to enter:

  • PRIZE: A commissioned painting from Studio Eriksdotter worth up to $350
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT ME A PICTURE!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us about your favorite piece of one-of-a-kind artwork that you currently own. Maybe it’s a finger painting done by a kid in your life? Something you got on etsy? Or a drawing that you sketched yourself to fill some blank space?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 24th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States, Canada and Europe!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Not only do we have one winner, but everyone can get 10% off of anything from Studio Eriksdotter through Dec 9th. Use the code YOUNGHOUSELOVE for any stationery purchase in her Etsy shop or you can contact her directly for art inquiries.

And our very lucky winner (as selected by random.org) is… Ali Moore. Congrats!

We bought a large hand carved Tiki Totem from a guy carving them on a beach in Oahu. He’s super cool and greets us when we walk in.

    Paint me a picture!!!

My father is an artist, though he never sells his work. We had never been very close while I was growing up, but as I got older every Christmas I started receiving checks instead of a heartfelt present. On the day I bought my new house, I had everything I needed for it donated by friends and family. He went to write me a check and I said, “I know something better.” After a little bit of coercing, I convinced him to let me take one handmade item from his house. I chose the painting still on his easel, that I’ve seen transform since I was about 12 (roughly 10 or 11 years). It’s abstract, actually it’s just a product of his boredom, but out of everything in my home I’ve gotten the most compliments on it.

PAINT ME A PICTURE!!! We have an “painting” of Boston (more like an old newspaper image) that we found at World Market. Sadly we don’t live in MA anymore, so every time I see that image I remember the great times I spent living there :)

    PAINT ME A PICTURE!

When I was travelling in Central America, I bought a picture painted by the local artists on the lake… it is a birds eye view of the farmers in the fields, surrounded by calla lilies, fruits, and vegetables.

Perhaps this isn’t what you meant, but my favorite piece of art would probably be a vintage crewel-embroidered linen bedspread.

My grandma stitched it when my mother was young and I fell in love with it when I was five. Years later when Grandma had cancer and was making her her will, she asked me what I’d like to inherit. I’ll never forget the way her eyes lit up when I told her I’d like her bedspread best…

Perhaps art isn’t so much the object in question, but the person inside it.

PAINT ME A PICTURE… I have a really cool silk screen poster from a conference I went to in Charleston, I could use another piece in my bedroom to coordinate to that, maybe based on the tree I presented a paper on at said conference. I am all about the original art in my new place, though I did just buy an Urban Outfitters picture…

The only art I have now is photography (oh – and those same IKEA prints I think everyone has – from your Green office mood board a couple of years ago). I am starting to try to make some pieces for over my bed using cut paper – but wouldn’t a commissioned piece be so much cooler :-)

The vase stands about waist tall and I absolutely love it! Our bedroom could for sure use a custom colorful picture to hang on the wall to match. Thanks for the contest!

My favorite unique art is a piece drawn in pastels from my best friend’s husband. He is an amazing artist, and for Christmas last year he did two framed drawings for my husband and me. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM! Mine is a section of a bookshelf with books, an apple, and other “accessories” on it. I’m an English teacher, and I love to read, so he definitely captured that. It is hanging above the bed in the guest bedroom where my homemade bookshelf is (that was made by my husband).

    Paint me a picture… please?

I am a horrid artist, my walls are covered with mirrors, my photography and posters.

But my favorite piece of artwork is a puzzle. My Grandma bought it to occupy me during a summer visit and there are 2,000 pieces (minus 5) that took me years to assemble. So when I finished I used decoupage and framed it.
