Fab Freebie: Paint Me A Picture

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – scroll down to see who won!***

The winner of this week’s giveaway can literally make that request. Because Swedish-born Virginia-based artist Erica Eriksdotter is giving away a commissioned painting worth up to $350. That’s right everyone, put on your fancy pants because soon you could be telling your friends smugly “oh yeah, that beautiful painting over there? I commissioned it.”

Eriksdotter Skyline

Eriksdotter Grey Petals

We really like the color in all of Erica’s work, and we love that our winner will be able to guide the color and design of their custom work to fit their home perfectly. You can even pick the best size for your space (from a 12 x 9″ up to 16 x 20″). Here’s how to enter:

  • PRIZE: A commissioned painting from Studio Eriksdotter worth up to $350
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT ME A PICTURE!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us about your favorite piece of one-of-a-kind artwork that you currently own. Maybe it’s a finger painting done by a kid in your life? Something you got on etsy? Or a drawing that you sketched yourself to fill some blank space?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 24th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States, Canada and Europe!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

******************************

Not only do we have one winner, but everyone can get 10% off of anything from Studio Eriksdotter through Dec 9th. Use the code YOUNGHOUSELOVE for any stationery purchase in her Etsy shop or you can contact her directly for art inquiries.

And our very lucky winner (as selected by random.org) is… Ali Moore. Congrats!

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Studio Eriksdotter.

My sister made a watercolor of our two cats that she gave us for christmas last year. I love that it hangs in our house as a tribute to her and our cats.

My favorite piece of one-of-a-kind art is a watercolor I painted of a reflective fence while at Storm King Art Center. As my first watercolor painting, I’m very proud of it.

Every year the town I live in has a local artisan fair and I pick up a piece of art from one of the local artists!! They aren’t known yet, so the paintings are fairly cheap and beautiful!!!

When my friends moved oversees they gave away the custom pieces they had painted. The piece they gave me goes beautifully in my living room – as though they and I planned it although it was all happenstance!

My FAV piece of art I have is a piece I bought on etsy this year. It’s a picture of a cow, and it’s in one of my powder rooms. I love it! It’s the first piece of art I’ve ever bought, and would love to add to my collection! THANKS!

I am lucky to have many one of a kind pieces in my house. A couple my husband and I have decided to splurge on . . .but my favorites are a set of hand drawn colored pencil drawings that my best friend did for me back in high school and college. They are amazing! Plus many of them have personal notes such as “to my best friend”, “will you go to prom with me” and “happy 16th birthday” . . . I hope that he becomes famous someday! You can check out some of his newer stuff – click on my name! (and please subscribe to his zines!!)

    “PAINT ME A PICTURE”

My favourite piece is an image my husband made….it was for his design class, he had to make a real object into art…so he create an oversized x-ray. He used paint and a plastic sheet, probably 4-6 times the size of a regular xray. The image was an MRI of the brain. Super cool!

Fave piece-my now 8-year old daughter created a red fingerpainting at age 3 in preschool. There was no subject or help but it turned out to be a beautiful heart, which she was unaware of! I framed it and have had it in our powder room for all the world to see! It compliments the “family/love” theme we use to decorate throughout!!

    Paint me a picture

I bought my husband a small painting of the Delaware River as a wedding gift. I don’t know that Impressionism is particularly his style, but I like it. I don’t imagine we’ll spend that much on a decorative item for the house for a LONG time to come (especially as a $/sq inch ratio), but this one’s special. The river bend looks exactly like the one we lived on as newlyweds–and he proposed to me on its banks.

We waited until we had painted our dining room to unpack and hang it–and were pleasantly surprised to discover that it works perfectly in the space! It echoes the paint colors in the walls, and the rust tones of the fireplace brick. Better yet, it has all the same color tones as the vase my husband had bought himself several years earlier. Yes, the man bought himself a decorative vase. Only once.

My favorite piece of art that we have in the house is an antique painting of a royal woman (it’s 17th century, I’ve been told). We don’t know anything about this woman, except that the painting was possibly done at a wedding (apparently they did this as wedding favors???).
We have called her “Queen Bess” in our family for generations.

Although I adore my etsy pieces, I have a collage framed in a shadowbox. I made the collage at a women’s retreat that focused on stepping outside of our comfort zones and just creating. It turns out that I did just that. I love it!
