Fab Freebie: Paint Me A Picture

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – scroll down to see who won!***

The winner of this week’s giveaway can literally make that request. Because Swedish-born Virginia-based artist Erica Eriksdotter is giving away a commissioned painting worth up to $350. That’s right everyone, put on your fancy pants because soon you could be telling your friends smugly “oh yeah, that beautiful painting over there? I commissioned it.”

Eriksdotter Skyline

Eriksdotter Grey Petals

We really like the color in all of Erica’s work, and we love that our winner will be able to guide the color and design of their custom work to fit their home perfectly. You can even pick the best size for your space (from a 12 x 9″ up to 16 x 20″). Here’s how to enter:

  • PRIZE: A commissioned painting from Studio Eriksdotter worth up to $350
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT ME A PICTURE!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us about your favorite piece of one-of-a-kind artwork that you currently own. Maybe it’s a finger painting done by a kid in your life? Something you got on etsy? Or a drawing that you sketched yourself to fill some blank space?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 24th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States, Canada and Europe!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

******************************

Not only do we have one winner, but everyone can get 10% off of anything from Studio Eriksdotter through Dec 9th. Use the code YOUNGHOUSELOVE for any stationery purchase in her Etsy shop or you can contact her directly for art inquiries.

And our very lucky winner (as selected by random.org) is… Ali Moore. Congrats!

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Studio Eriksdotter.

    “PAINT ME A PICTURE!”

A painting of a cowboy sitting on his porch with the mountains in the background.

The painting was hung in grandparents guest room. When I was little I used to lay awake in bed making stories up about it… Now it’s hung in our guest room.

My fav artwork is a pencil drawing of my husband and me done by an artist on the boardwalk in Puerto Vallarta when we were on our honeymoon. It froze that glorious moment in time for us and it hangs in our dining room as a reminder of it.

“PAINT ME A PICTURE!” My favorite original is one I did to fill a huge wall and bring togethers the colours in my living room. I love it, and if I ever get bored of it I can easily re-use the huge canvas to paint another original.

My husband’s uncle sketches and writes haiku poems. While visiting us for our wedding in Hawaii he wrote a poem and sketched the mountains. He had it framed in a simple black frame and gave it to us for our wedding. His one-of-a-kind artwork reminds us of home (we are now in NYC for a little adventure) and reminds us of that special time in our lives.

Last night my Mom gave my brother and I our portfolios from art lessions when I was 7 and he was 9. It was hilarious. His were so detailed and beautifully drawn (he has some talent!), and mine were um…. “abstract”. I can picture him bent seriously over his paper while I skipped around the studio, looking for brighter colours! Very much our respective personalities! That’s what my commissioned piece would have to be!

I have a beautiful watercolor that my boyfriend’s mother gave me during our first Christmas together. It’s very special to me – something about a handmade painting made me really feel welcomed into the family.

My favorite piece is a picture of a ballerina standing en pointe on the beach with black birds flying away from her! It combines my love for dancing and the beach. PAINT ME A PICTURE!!!! I have two special pieces actually – a French charcoal drawing of a (nude) mother and child. I think it’s beautiful, although I’m not too fond of the nudies :) Also, I have lots of original photography (cause that’s my thing) and on a recent trip to Cape Cod, I was able to capture especially beautiful images of windmills and lighthouses. I plan to print these out with our photo printer and put them up for some beautiful, free artwork.

I think it’s a lot easier to make your own art than people think (not of Erica Eriksdotter’s quality, of course, but good enough for a college dorm room!). I love the unfinished/doodle look, so right now I have a sketch I did of an outfit on my wall, and it looks nice. Plus it was free!

My favorite piece of art is a portrait my husband’s brother (about 13 yrs old) gave us for Christmas last year. He took a color picture of us and painted on canvas with white, black, and blue for the accents and shadows. I think he did it as a school project, but it’s awesome that he was thinking of us :)

My most cherished pieces at the moment are:

    1. a beautiful watercolor my niece did when she was 3.
    2. a Rothko inspired piece painted by my mom.
    3. a painting of our Weimaraner, Libby, while she was in rescue. Carol’s Canvas painted it and put it on her website to help raise rescue funds. We fostered Libby and adopted her so we had to have the painting. :)
