Fab Freebie: Paint Me A Picture

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – scroll down to see who won!***

The winner of this week’s giveaway can literally make that request. Because Swedish-born Virginia-based artist Erica Eriksdotter is giving away a commissioned painting worth up to $350. That’s right everyone, put on your fancy pants because soon you could be telling your friends smugly “oh yeah, that beautiful painting over there? I commissioned it.”

Eriksdotter Skyline

Eriksdotter Grey Petals

We really like the color in all of Erica’s work, and we love that our winner will be able to guide the color and design of their custom work to fit their home perfectly. You can even pick the best size for your space (from a 12 x 9″ up to 16 x 20″). Here’s how to enter:

  • PRIZE: A commissioned painting from Studio Eriksdotter worth up to $350
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT ME A PICTURE!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us about your favorite piece of one-of-a-kind artwork that you currently own. Maybe it’s a finger painting done by a kid in your life? Something you got on etsy? Or a drawing that you sketched yourself to fill some blank space?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 24th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States, Canada and Europe!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

******************************

Not only do we have one winner, but everyone can get 10% off of anything from Studio Eriksdotter through Dec 9th. Use the code YOUNGHOUSELOVE for any stationery purchase in her Etsy shop or you can contact her directly for art inquiries.

And our very lucky winner (as selected by random.org) is… Ali Moore. Congrats!

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Studio Eriksdotter.

    Paint Me a Picture!

My favorite piece is a wood burl hollowed out by my husband. It was a root burl and on a path at a summer camp, so the wood had scarred over from where it was stepped on, giving it even more character. It is really gnarled–I love the shape, texture and colors. It almost looks like a wood conch shell. I have it hanging on the wall near a bunch of wildlife photography and a printers box with arrowhead replicas.

When my first son was born I gave each of my sibling’s families a blank canvas and a set of acrylic paints (colors all the same and ones that coordinated with my nursery) and asked their kids to do a painting for the new baby. I now have 5 awesome original pieces of artwork in my sons room.

I was given a gorgeous photo canvas from a former employer. She is a multimedia artist who did work based on the aurora borealis. The print she gave me was of a pic of a fire with two deckchairs around it, on snow, in the artic circle with the midnight sun behind. Gorgeous.

What a great prize. I would say black and white photos I took of my city, Chicago. Now that I have a nicer camera and can see what’s “wrong” with my photography, I would like to go back and reshoot some, but I still love them and haven’t been able to take them down.

    PAINT ME A PICTURE!

My Mother-in-Law does volunteer tax work for older folks around town every year. One of her tax clients makes collages and that’s how she “pays” my MIL for her help. They are really bright and use interesting textiles and she always frames them beautifully. I’ve always admired my MIL’s collection of them and she had passed that along to the artist. The year my husband and I were getting married, her tax client gifted us with a huge collage that hangs in our (bright red) dining room. A couple years later we bought a second one of the same size so now we have a set of them. They’re not only my favorite pieces of one-of-a-kind art, but probably my favorite things in my whole house (with the exception of my husband and dogs, of course!)

PAINT ME A PICTURE! We received a painting from a friend’s Mom. She painted it to represent Indiana where we lived. It was also symbolic of the Ph.D. program which my husband was working on at the time. We love it! One of a kind art is something that is cherished forever!

my favorite piece is something my husband did for me a year ago, it’s a typology of sorts, which he knew i loved, and he stenciled out lyrics to a song and spray painted away, hard to explain how it is done, but a super amazing piece

    PAINT ME A PICTURE! (Please?)

(More than) a few years ago, I visited a friend of mine at a college in the northeast. As an art student, my friend had access to the studios at all hours of the night. She took me and another friend of ours to the printmaking studio and the three of us spent the night goofing off with oil paints and heavy equipment. My favorite piece of art is a result of that night – I love it not only because I made it, but because it reminds me of how much fun we all had that evening.

Currently I do not have really any art that I made myself up in my home. I have purcahsed a chair and a bookcase that I am re-doing myself in the very near future.

I also love this little print shop in NYC and I have few of their items around the house. Browne and Co. Stationary.
