The winner of this week’s giveaway can literally make that request. Because Swedish-born Virginia-based artist Erica Eriksdotter is giving away a commissioned painting worth up to $350. That’s right everyone, put on your fancy pants because soon you could be telling your friends smugly “oh yeah, that beautiful painting over there? I commissioned it.”

  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT ME A PICTURE!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us about your favorite piece of one-of-a-kind artwork that you currently own. Maybe it’s a finger painting done by a kid in your life? Something you got on etsy? Or a drawing that you sketched yourself to fill some blank space?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 24th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States, Canada and Europe!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

    PAINT ME A PICTURE!

One day I was messing around with my kids’ watercolors, and the next thing I knew, I had painted a fairly decent-looking sunflower! It is now framed and sits on top of a bookshelf in our spare room.

For our second anniversary my husband got me a painting of a magnolia bloom because I have always wanted a magnolia tree. It is by far my favorite piece of art in the house.

Being an design major, I have made lots of original artwork. My favorite that I’ve done is an old-fashioned-style Harper’s poster rendered in Illustrator. It has a huge pop of yellow mixed with neutral tans and whites and black outlines. I love the colors together and the bold, graphic elements.

My favorite one of a kind piece of art work is a silk screen print my sister made of my wedding cake photo. It was a gift for my birthday and it hangs in my bedroom. The outline of the cake is so cool and clean looking. Its a great treasure to have.

    PAINT ME A PICTURE!!

My favourite one-of-a-kind piece in my house is a beautiful watercolour that my grandfather (an artist) painted. My grandmother found it in one of his sketchbooks after he died, had it framed and kept it with her until she died. She left the painting to me. It is so different from anything else he painted and is very special to me.

My favorite piece of art in my house is a by-hand, marker sketch of a pirate ship by a local artist/hobo known as “Sailor Dan”. My boyfriend got it for me on our first date, and it’s hanging proudly in our kitchen two years later!

My favorite pieces of original artwork are the ones my kids drew me when they were younger. I’m looking at one right now my youngest drew of me and her holding hands and she wrote above it “I love you” in puffy letters. Priceless!

    PAINT ME A PICTURE!

I own no paintings. Zero! My husband and I have completely different taste in art. The closest I have is a picture I bought from a street vendor in NYC during a friend’s bachelorette party. It’s a black and white, still without a frame, and still not hanging in my house :-) Actually, now that I think of it, we bought a sketch of Captain Tony’s bar in Key West from a local artist. Captain Tony was actually at the bar one day so my husband made me go with him back to our B&B and picked up the painting so that Captain Tony could sign it. The only good think that I can say about our “art” is that it has a (small and boring) story behind it.

My very favorite painting is an original I bought at Goodwill for $7. It is of a house on a hill with a man walking towards the viewer. It is kinda abstract with very bright colors, and everyone who sees it can’t believe I paid less than $10 for it. I don’t know Henri (the painter), but I love his work!

My favorite piece of custom artwork that I own is a sketch done by my cousin who is an excellent artist. She did it probably about 8 years ago when we were having a sleepover in my parents basement. She included lyrics from songs that we were listening to and ideas from magazines that we were cutting up to make collages. It is the first and only piece of real art that I own (for now).

My favorite piece of art is a picture that my husband took while on vacation. While canoeing, (he’s such a multitasker) he captured the front of the canoe, the still water–with the sky reflected in it and lilly pads on the water’s surface. It is also very patriotic if you look closely because there is a maple leaf design (yay Canada!) etched into the leather on the canoe seat.

PAINT ME A PICTURE! My favorite pieces of artwork in my home are:
    1. The DIY Moroccan Door wall of art that I made for my living room
    2. The sunset beach painting I made for my bedroom and
    3. Likely one of my more favorite – the painting of a red and black kimono that I did originally for my living room in our old apartment, that now resides in our dining room.

I would LOVE to have a beautiful painting to go above our fireplace in our living room – or maybe she’d do a better job at an abstract beach scene for our bedroom… hmmm..

I have several pieces painted by my aunt, who was a fantastic artist who lived on a farm and painted mostly dogs and cows – hard to choose from them! My favorite of hers though is a little watercolor sketch – maybe 3×5 – that she did at the beach one summer. It’s very simple – a painting of where we hung all of the “stuff” that didn’t make it inside – sandy flip flops, towels, bathing suits – colorful and fun, captures her free spirit and reminds me of those fun trips every summer.
