Fab Freebie: Matchmaker, Matchmaker

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

Our winner, thanks to the willy nilly matchmaking skills of random.org, is… Sharon (who’s hoping to be matched up with a piece of art to finish off a master bedroom renovation). Congrats!

Art.com is full of affordable stuff to help solve Naked Wall Syndrome (like these horse prints that we recently purchased) so we’re psyched that they’re giving away an $250 gift card to one of you lucky folks this week. They’ve launched a new tool called Match My Image that promises to come in handy next time you’re hunting for the perfect piece. You just upload an image – maybe of a fabric that you’re trying to coordinate or a photo that you’re using as inspiration – and it spits out a slew of art in that color scheme/vein that’s available for purchase. Here’s what we happened upon when we uploaded a couple of personal pictures (a photo of the river here in Richmond and a painting that Clara recently whipped up). Fun, right?

ArtDotComGiveaway

  • PRIZE: A $250 gift card to Art.com
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “MATCH ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us if you’ve ever tried playing matchmaker? Or has someone else tried to match you up? How did it all work out? Was it amazing? Or should you (or your would-be matchmaker) stick to their day job?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 13th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Art.com.

    MATCH ME!

I’ve never tried to play matchmaker and I think I’ll keep it that way. It worries me a little…especially with good friends. Well, I don’t want to make them upset if it doesn’t work!

I haven’t been a matchmaker, but I have been a matchmakee! And a happy one, to boot. We met in February of 2009 and got married in October of 2010. :)

Yup, tried to set up my high school bff w/ my hubby’s college bff. It was amazing at first but then my friend decided she thought he was great friend material, but not boyfriend – poor guy.. Oh well, I tried!

I am currently trying to play matchmaker for my little brother (a recent college grad) and match him up with a former student of mine who is going to college in the same town where he lives. Twice now I’ve tried to get them to meet (all three of us going out for drinks when I came down to visit them) and both times it’s fallen through because one of them can’t make it. :( I haven’t given up yet though!

    MATCH ME!

I’ve never had a matchmaking experience, but I’ve always loved the story of how my grandparents got together: my grandfather was in the Airforce, and was home on leave. He had been dating my grandmother’s sister, but when he asked her out, she turned him down (I think she was too busy washing her hair). He didn’t want to waste a night of leave, so he asked out my grandmother instead. She went with him, they dated for his 2 weeks of leave, and got married before he went back. They were together for 62 years!

First — Match Me! I have matchmaking experiences. The first is matching myself (via a similarly named dating service) to the man of my dreams. I realized I had to match myself as my colleague (and fellow counselor) tried to set me up with a man who I later learned was clinically depressed. Now THAT’S a friend!

And yes, I’ve been the victim of a couple of “they’ll be perfect for you!” match ups. Not a one that was even close.

On one memorable date, the person told me in the first ten minutes that they hated kids (I have two); and that wasn’t even the WORST thing they revealed on that memorable date.\

That said, I thought they’d be a great match for a good friend of mine. I arranged the set up, and they’ve been married for 7 years. With that kind of success – I never tried it again. :)

    MATCH ME!

My friend dated a guy in college and they had broken up a few years previously.

Well, we took a weekend trip down to Foxwoods when we were 22 or 23 and had a bit too much to drink. While intoxicated, my friend got mopey about how her Ex was good to her and she was stupid to break up with him, etc etc. I told her to give him a call and see if he’d come visit. Sure enough, he and a friend drove the 3 hours down the next evening and it went well.

They’ve been married 8 years and have a 3 year old!
