Fab Freebie: IKEA, IKEA, IKEA!

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – scroll down to see who won!***

Perhaps you’ve heard of a little store called Ikea? And perhaps you’ll be interested in a $350 gift card from them for this week’s giveaway? Yeah we couldn’t believe it either when they emailed us. Hooray is right, Ikea catalog. Well said.

And not only are they generously offering up this week’s sweet prize, Ikea’s also presenting “The Life Improvement Project” where they’ll award one philanthropic individual $100,000 to take a one year sabbatical to help others (start a non-profit, volunteer for a year, etc). Plus they’re hosting free seminars in their stores about improving your life through your living space.

Ikea Life Improvement Proje

But back to how you can get your mitts on that $350 gift card:

  • PRIZE: A $350 gift card to Ikea!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IKEA Me!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us what you’d do if you could spend one year helping others. Would you open an after school program? Volunteer at a homeless shelter? Rescue animals?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 27th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

******************************

You guys are quite impressive with your nearly 11,000 entries. So impressive in fact that Ikea decided to change their plans and give away not just one, not just two, but THREE $350 gift cards. That’s over $1000 in gift cards! Thanks Ikea!

So let’s see who the lucky three winners are according to random.org:

  • Alyssa Allen (who’s Life Improvement Project would include moving her fam somewhere in the world to help the poverty crisis)
  • NEPD (who’d give her wedding florist services away free of charge)
  • Jill (who’d give a year working with the Wildlife Conservation Society)

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Ikea.

I would like to spend a year helping amputees and doing diabetes awareness. My Dad has type I, since he was a little boy and lost his right leg this year and is having problems with his other foot currently. I think there needs to be more support for these men and women.

If I had a year to volunteer, I would create a place where people could donate furniture/ help refurbish furniture for women when they leave women’s shelters. A lot of times when women leave their unhealthy circumstances, they are only able to get out with a the cloths on their back and a few personal items. So it would be nice to have updated furniture to give to them when the leave the shelter to start their lives over with.

The idea of anyone going hungry sometimes keeps me up at night. I would spend the year working with organizations like Feed America and volunteering in soup kitchens, doing my part to make sure that no one in this great country ever has to go to bed hungry.

Earlier this year I quit my job as a social worker to help my hubby with his new business. I miss what I used to do so much! I counseled teens with drug problems and I would go back to volunteer in a heart beat! There are so many programs for teens that are under-staffed and under-funded that I would love to help with if I had the time! Teenagers may be considered a pain in the butt to some people, but they hold a very special place in my heart!

I would work with an amazing parent support group in my community, Parenthesis. They provide relief for parents who don’t have support, offer guidance and childcare services. The people who work there do so much. With a year off I could devote loads of energy and experience to them as a parent and a professional.

I’m a nurse and I’ve always been drawn to help others medically – especially the ones who can’t afford health care. I would spend a year in a poverty stricken area administering immunizations, teaching healthy life styles, triaging, offering advice, and most importantly teaching and showing the love of God.

I would put the money towards scholarships for women who choose to place their child for adoption. Women making this decision want wonderful things for their children, things the sadly know that they can’t provide. This would be a great way to make positive change as they move forward in their lives.
