Perhaps you’ve heard of a little store called Ikea? And perhaps you’ll be interested in a $350 gift card from them for this week’s giveaway? Yeah we couldn’t believe it either when they emailed us. Hooray is right, Ikea catalog. Well said.
And not only are they generously offering up this week’s sweet prize, Ikea’s also presenting “The Life Improvement Project” where they’ll award one philanthropic individual $100,000 to take a one year sabbatical to help others (start a non-profit, volunteer for a year, etc). Plus they’re hosting free seminars in their stores about improving your life through your living space.
But back to how you can get your mitts on that $350 gift card:
- PRIZE: A $350 gift card to Ikea!
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IKEA Me!” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … tell us what you’d do if you could spend one year helping others. Would you open an after school program? Volunteer at a homeless shelter? Rescue animals?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 27th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
******************************
You guys are quite impressive with your nearly 11,000 entries. So impressive in fact that Ikea decided to change their plans and give away not just one, not just two, but THREE $350 gift cards. That’s over $1000 in gift cards! Thanks Ikea!
So let’s see who the lucky three winners are according to random.org:

I would spend a year volunteering to help feed the homeless. There are so many homeless people in our community and I am thinking about gathering some friends and family to feed the homeless and provide them with clothing. I already have a co-worker of mine who feeds the homeless once a month and I would love to do the same…To give back since I am forever grateful for the things and special people I have in my life….$350 from Ikea would come in handy to go on a shoppong spree and buy some of their most practical and useful items. Thanks YHL for the opportunity to join in!

Ikea me please! Wow one year entirely dedicated to helping others would be amazing!! I would do more with the animal rescue group I volunteer with. Without having to go to work I would have way more time to foster more animals and walk our dogs in the shelter! How wonderful that would be!

Ikea me! I would spend a year helping rescue animals. I already have three rescued pets, two dogs and a rabbit. One of our dogs is the ultimate rescue, while we were fostering her she got loose and was lost for two months but I eventually found where she had been living, at a construction site, and I was able to catch her and bring her home. We have decided to keep her, I couldn’t give her up after all we had been through together.
If I had the means I would open a dog retirement home. I always feel so bad for the elderly dogs that are stuck in shelters. I would rescue them and give them a nice place to live out their last few years.

Before we had children and a business to run, my husband and I used to daydream about joining VISTA and teaching on an Indian Reservation. American Indians have disproportionately high rates of teen suicide, teen pregnancy, alcoholism, unemployment, you name it. Living on reservations offers cultural benefits and the support of tribal members, but isolation from job opportunities and mainstream American life. It would be wonderful to help teach and inspire Native kids who might then go on to further their educations in the wider world and bring better opportunities and inspiration back to the reservations.
