No, the title of this week’s freebie isn’t meant to be perverse. It’s just the clearest way to identify the DuPont giveaway that has already popped up on some of our favorite blogs. And now it’s here on YHL (insert party kazoo sound effect here). Ladies and gents, we present to you: the DuPont iPod Touch giveaway. That’s right, DuPont’s gonna hook one of you up with a free iPod Touch. Monday just got a little better, eh?
DuPont recently launched a new free iPhone and iPod Touch app called mySurface that’s designed to help you pick a countertop from within their
DuPont was even kind enough to hook us up with our own iPod Touch (now I’m almost as cool as my iPhone toting wife) to check it out and dig up some other helpful DIY apps to share with you guys. So here are the other home-improvement related apps that we’re digging:
We’ve been having lots of fun with Benjamin Moore’s ColorCapture app (also free). Using uploaded photos (or pics snapped with the iPhone’s camera) you find paint colors and color schemes to coordinate with your favorite fabric, painting or – well – photo of your dog on the beach. And though we haven’t used it yet, the 99-cent SwedeShop app is the unofficial Ikea organizer for the iPhone. So you can forget the golf pencil on your next trip- plus it automatically tallies your budget as you go.
We also got lots of tips about keeping notes and lists on your iPhone back on this post, so we’ve started to use Evernote (again, free). It’s like the Voice Memo and Notes tools that come already loaded on the iPod, but a bit more organized. Linked to an account on evernote.com, you can keep voice, text, photo and screen grab notes that can be labeled with tags, sorted by geo-tags and easily searched. We’ve also been enjoying craigsphone, the app version of craigslist. Nothing new in terms of content, but hunting for real estate, browsing local yard sales and perusing used furniture in need of a new home is almost easier on the iPod than the real web site. The app is free, but it certainly could end up costing us more as we discover new steals.

and my favorite new application is from Nennah Paper. It’s a powerful design and color theory tool that allows you to find inspiration in the photos you snap and explore the phycology behind hundreds of color choices! :) (Now I just need an Ipod touch so I can use it, instead of just reading about it!!!)

I don’t have an iTouch or iPhone so I am not familiar with all those fun apps…but if I could create an application, I would create one that would organize my closet. I like getting dressed in the mornings but with my faux-app, I could browse my own clothes like a store – view all my pants, or sweaters, or shoes, etc. I think it would be cool to create an outfit or let the app randomly choose bottoms & tops; who knows what it would come up with!

I would love an app that would tell you what you need to do home improvement projects. For example… kind of finishes, glaze, primer, paint, etc. you need to redo certain woods. Or how to hang a chandelier. Just simple How to’s.

My favorite app is the urbanspoon app. It automatically figures out which area you are in, you shake the itouch and it scrolls through a bunch of restaurants that it suggests for you! Great for trying out new places wherever you are.

Um… I almost don’t want to share (in fear that I’ll actually win and have everyone see my response) but our favorite app is the, uh, bodily function one. It’s seriously funny. You move the phone and it makes one of several different, er, unflattering sounds. I know, we’re gross… but it’s sooo funny!

I don’t have an iPhone, but I heard of this app that is like an alarm clock, but instead of waking you at a set time, it wakes you up within 30 minutes of your set time at the point of your lightest sleep. This way you wake up more refreshed. Amazing!

My favorite app is “Around Me”. If you are traveling or in an unfamiliar area of your own city and you want to find something (Starbucks, park, etc.) you can find it easily with Around Me. We just were on a trip to Wash. DC and Virginia and it came in very handy.

TOUCH ME! I don’t have an iPhone or iPod Touch, but if I did I’d want an app that lets you upload a photo of your room and it’d pull up a list of furniture items that would compliment your decor. So similar to the SwedeShop, but it would pull furniture suggestions from Target, West Elm, and others.
