Fab Freebie: Hi, My Name Is…

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

We’re back with another fantastic prize that THREE lucky winners will be able to put their names on. This one comes from Customized Stationary, a fun little Etsy shop that features playfully designed cards and prints that you can customize with everything from your first name to your family name. And they’ve kindly put together three sweet sets for our winners to choose from (each which includes a print and set of coordinating notecards) that we were so enamored with we couldn’t help but snag a set for ourselves.

Custom Station Tree

Custom Station Birds

Custom Station Stump

We had trouble picking, but ended up going with the Carved Tree set, which we got to customize not only with our name and our initials carved into the tree, but also with our choice of colors. That way we ended up with a perfect-for-us set of stationary that was almost too good lookin’ to unwrap.

Custom Station Petersiks

Want a chance to customize your own set? Here are the giveaway deets:

  • PRIZE: 8×10″ print and coordinating twelve pack of 4 x 5.25 notecards in your selected design (Bird Family, Carved Tree or Stump). It’s a $27 value, but stay tuned for a YHL special discount at the end of the contest on Thursday.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “CUSTOMIZE ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: Tell us about one of the last handwritten letters your sent (or received). Seems to be a dying custom in the digital age, so what was memorable about a recent time you used snail mail to send something special?
  • CONTEST CLOSES: Wednesday, September 2nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: USA Only
  • THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

Customize Me! I made a correspondence journal a while ago with some fun scrappy papers and a composition journal (like the ones from elementary school!) that I send back and forth with my Nana. I thought it’d be a neat way to preserve some of our relationship for generations to come. My husband even got in on it and has begun writing to her before we send it. It’s super sweet and always nice to read on a day I’m sad or something.

I love to send ‘snail mail’ and do it every chance I get. My husband’s uncle keeps a cottage on Lake Michigan specifically for family (in Texas and us in RVA) to use when visiting all the aunts/uncles/grandparents on the western coast. The weeks we’ve spent there have just been perfect. I love to send our Uncle El little notes thanking him for his hospitality.
I am digging the same tree pattern you guys choose and have the feeling that winner or not I’ll need to add these to my note-writing repertoire!

The last handwritten letter I recieved and sent was back at the beginning of the year while my husband was deployed to Iraq. He could only email about twice a week (if we were lucky) and could only call about once a week-10 days. So we wrote each other as much as we could. We’d number the letters so if one arrived out of order, we would know. He was gone 10 months and I will treasure my letters for the rest of my life.

I can’t specifically remember the last handwritten letter I wrote (though I tend to send a lot of handmade cards so I’m sure I’ve sent some).

But last month my 5 year old daughter wanted to send a letter to her friend who moved away last year and I helped her with that. So cute!

Though not as cheery a detail to pass along as I’d hoped, the last hand-written letter I sent was to my grandma, who has been in the hospital for the past few weeks. No doubt that cute stationary would have added that much more cheer to her day.

I met a woman six years ago when I accompanied my mom to a convention in CA, and where she had accompanied her husband. We went on a day trip to Mexico together and exchanged addresses so we could swap photos we took that day. To this day we write one another. It turns out she is from the town I was born in, all the way back in GA.
Our letters update one another on trips we have taken, major purchases (for me, it was a car), relationship woes and holiday wishes.
To be honest I don’t even get hand-written letters from family anymore, but I can count on the one I get from Barbara every month or so. In fact, I just got one today in a bright yellow envelope!

The last handwritten note I wrote was in a class I was taking they asked us to write a note to someone person who helped graduate the course.

I wrote it to my husband even if he does live with me and popped it in the mail. He is a stay at home Dad so he would get it when I was at work anyways.

He is a big baseball fan so I thanked him for being on my team, my coach, etc. and helping me hit home runs even when the organizers (it was not a very organized program) forgot the baseballs, the bats and gave us the wrong directions to the field.

I hate generic thank you notes. I always try to write something thoughtful that extends beyond the typical “thank you for x, I will be using it for y.” Most memorably, this past May I had to write about 30 thank you notes from my bridal shower. In order to write them timely and personally, I spaced them out so I never did more than 3 at a time and just did them at odd intervals throughout the day over a few days. Most memorably was one that I sent to my sister-in-law-to-be. It contained the following, “You have the loudest farts I have ever heard in my entire life. I am proud that you are going to be my sister-in-law.” :)

I still am one of those people who sends cards. The very last one I sent was today…a friend surprised me at the last minute on my birthday(last friday) to attend a concert. I was not so much about the card as it was the thoughtfulness I was thanking someone for. She happens to be close friends with the grammy nominated artist who was performing…..so we had drinks and were his guests for the night. Ah-mazing.

The last hand written note was given to me by my boyfriend. We had stayed in a really swanky hotel the night before to celebrate our 9 years together. Well the next morning he handed me this card he had made and had sat up all night writing. As I was reading it he was leaning down on one new and pulling out my engagement ring. I actually plan on blowing the letter up to be on display at the wedding. The best letter EVER!

CUSTOMIZE ME! I love, love, love the tree branch/stump stationary.

I write a ton of handwritten letters (I have a bit of a stationary problem) – but my favorite that I’ve received in the mail lately was a letter from one of our adopters. I operate a small animal rescue group (www.bonniebluerescue.com) and once my long-term foster, Bella, was placed in herforever home, I received the sweetest thank you note from her new mom, thanking me for “the best Christmas present ever”. I keep that letter posted on the fridge as a reminder that even on tough days, that we’re doing the right thing by saving these pups.

My fave mail has to be the letters my grandpa would write to me when I was in college. My grandma refuses to let him get a computer because she thinks he’d be addicted to it and he’s not much of a phone person so that means lots of handwritten letters instead of e-mail! The letters would usually just be telling me about his day and he’d always include something about what Grandma was doing and wearing while he was writing. “Grandma is barefoot and doing a crossword puzzle….” so cute!

I get little notes in the mail from my Great Aunt Melva. She is a card maker/stamper, so her notes are always on pretty paper and her classic cursive writing is the perfect complement to her stamping! She always gives me all the details on her neighborhood (she’s lived in her house for 50 years – needless to say, she has a LOT to say about the neighbors) and the latest on my grandfather’s health. Her notes just make my month, as I hope my replies make hers.
