Fab Freebie: Hi, My Name Is…

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

We’re back with another fantastic prize that THREE lucky winners will be able to put their names on. This one comes from Customized Stationary, a fun little Etsy shop that features playfully designed cards and prints that you can customize with everything from your first name to your family name. And they’ve kindly put together three sweet sets for our winners to choose from (each which includes a print and set of coordinating notecards) that we were so enamored with we couldn’t help but snag a set for ourselves.

Custom Station Tree

Custom Station Birds

Custom Station Stump

We had trouble picking, but ended up going with the Carved Tree set, which we got to customize not only with our name and our initials carved into the tree, but also with our choice of colors. That way we ended up with a perfect-for-us set of stationary that was almost too good lookin’ to unwrap.

Custom Station Petersiks

Want a chance to customize your own set? Here are the giveaway deets:

  • PRIZE: 8×10″ print and coordinating twelve pack of 4 x 5.25 notecards in your selected design (Bird Family, Carved Tree or Stump). It’s a $27 value, but stay tuned for a YHL special discount at the end of the contest on Thursday.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “CUSTOMIZE ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: Tell us about one of the last handwritten letters your sent (or received). Seems to be a dying custom in the digital age, so what was memorable about a recent time you used snail mail to send something special?
  • CONTEST CLOSES: Wednesday, September 2nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: USA Only
  • THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

This summer I made an effort for the first time to start sending letters to friends and family on a regular basis. Writing my wedding thank-you notes in June made me realize how much I love (and miss) letter writing.

That is some adorable stationary. I hardley ever send handwritten notes anymore, unfortunately. The one exception is Thank you’s. I always do handwritten thank you’s after receiving gifts. Probably the last ones I mailed were after my daughter’s 3rd birthday party several months ago.

The last letter we received was from the man (91 years old, btw!) my husband bought his first fixer house (now a rental) from asking if we would like to buy another fixer house from him!! We took him up on that offer and got ourselves an adorable 1920 bungalow that we remodeled and is now our second rental property!

As someone who LOVES to open the mailbox to find an envelope with my name handwritten on it (instead of finding just another bill!), I try to send handwritten notes anytime I can. I just sent one off this morning to one of my dear friends who just informed me that she is pregnant!

I write cards all of the time, especially being in the events industry. I’m forever thanking partners/vendors/suppliers, staff, etc. for their great work. Writing thank you notes instead of sending e-mails is becoming a lost art and I like to take the time to personally write a note to everyone.

I remember when I met my boyfriend (before we were BF + GF, hehe), and afterwards he told me he was so impressed that I was so thoughtful and took the time out to write thank you notes individually to the 15-20 staff that were on-site working for the cruise line. He knew I was special…

But, the last thank you note I wrote was actually this morning. I thanked a friend for taking time out of his intense schedule to talk to me about the possible Chicago 2016 Olympics. Of course I speak with him on the phone and via e-mail but I think a handwritten card just adds a little special thank you, and it really is the appropriate thing to do.

I just popped a handwritten thank you note in the mail today. We recently moved out of state and our old next door neighbors moved the month before we did. They moved about three hours from our new home but were vacationing just an hour from us so we were able to meet up for the day. I snapped a few pics of the day, printed them out and included them in our thank you note. I got a kick out of writing it so hoping they get a kick out of receiving it!

The last handwritten note I sent was to my mom about two months ago. At the time she was halfway across the country receiving some medical attention and I knew that weekly letters would mean so much to her. It was the first time in a long time I didn’t simply send a “thank you” or something equally as short-and-sweet by snail mail. This time, I wrote to my mom at length, describing in length the simple things such as how I spent my day or how I had heard something and thought of her.

Now she’s home and doing much better, and I can see just how much she appreciated the handwritten notes!

Recently we received the nicest handwritten letter from an acquaintance whom we’d sent a condolence card to. He’s not a close friend, so when we read his heartfelt words of gratitude for our sympathies, as well as his words of wisdom to us (we’re expecting a baby) we were really touched. It seems like people don’t reach out to each other like that anymore.
