Fab Freebie: Hi, My Name Is…

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

We’re back with another fantastic prize that THREE lucky winners will be able to put their names on. This one comes from Customized Stationary, a fun little Etsy shop that features playfully designed cards and prints that you can customize with everything from your first name to your family name. And they’ve kindly put together three sweet sets for our winners to choose from (each which includes a print and set of coordinating notecards) that we were so enamored with we couldn’t help but snag a set for ourselves.

Custom Station Tree

Custom Station Birds

Custom Station Stump

We had trouble picking, but ended up going with the Carved Tree set, which we got to customize not only with our name and our initials carved into the tree, but also with our choice of colors. That way we ended up with a perfect-for-us set of stationary that was almost too good lookin’ to unwrap.

Custom Station Petersiks

Want a chance to customize your own set? Here are the giveaway deets:

  • PRIZE: 8×10″ print and coordinating twelve pack of 4 x 5.25 notecards in your selected design (Bird Family, Carved Tree or Stump). It’s a $27 value, but stay tuned for a YHL special discount at the end of the contest on Thursday.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “CUSTOMIZE ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: Tell us about one of the last handwritten letters your sent (or received). Seems to be a dying custom in the digital age, so what was memorable about a recent time you used snail mail to send something special?
  • CONTEST CLOSES: Wednesday, September 2nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: USA Only
  • THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

    PLEASE CUSTOMIZE ME!!!

I love these little cards. Specifically the tree with the initials carved in it.

The last letter I wrote was to my mother. She lives in Knoxville, TN and I in Richmond. We have always been close and I hate the phone so we both write letters to each other. We try to include current recipes we like and pictures and whatever else we can think of. It always makes me smile to see a letter from my mom on my door step.

My husband and I sent postcards to the members of our wedding party while we were on our honeymoon in Italy. Did you know that it cost $1 per piece to mail? Definitely not the most economical but my girlfriends absolutely loved it.

    “CUSTOMIZE ME”

The last note I wrote was to someone who had been sick and was feeling lonely and even though I could not be there I thought the card would make her feel better (it did!). The last one I got was a ‘thank you’ for a shower gift. When my mom lived four hours away we would send each other notes and cards all the time just to say we loved each other and were thinking of the other one.

We generally send thank you notes for most things – birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, etc. Of course, I am one of those that sends out cards with hand written notes every chance I get!

Customize the heck out of me! I handwrite notes all the time. I try to keep at least two sets of really cute stationery on hand so that I have something from which to choose when it’s time for a note. Most recently I’ve (sadly) written two condolence cards. I don’t like the pre-printed sympathy cards because their messages are always so hokey. I prefer to just write my own notes. THANKS for the opportunity to win!

The last letter I wrote was to one of my best friends who was in Ireland for a year. We would skype some or facebook, but she was so excited to get a real life letter. I’ve received a few letters when I was abroad too and there’s something about them that seems magical. You feel more connected to that person than when you’re just emailing for sure.

When my now husband and I were dating, we used to frequently write letters to each other (I was on the West Coast and he was on the East Coast). It was something so special and meaningful to us that we kept it up. He’s a helocopter pilot in the navy and just got back from a three month deployment. We wrote each other letters almost every day! As great as e-mail was for us, there’s nothing quite like a hand written note! It was the highlight of our days while we were apart, not to mention very romantic!

The last real mail I sent was our thank you cards for all the wonderful gifts that we received for our wedding. It took me longer than it probably should have, but I was determined that they weren’t the standard ‘thank you for the mixer and coming to our wedding.’ Our guests were so generous and we loved our gifts so much, I wanted to make sure the thank yous were worthy of the thought put into them and not just a chore for us.

The last time I sent a handwritten note was actually today ironically. I sent out eight thank you letters. I have always and will always write handwritten thank you notes. I think they are way more personal and allows you to step away from your computer in this digital age:-) Receiving snail mail is exciting…it’s like a little kid in a candy shop because it is rare these days for people to use snail mail! I actually received a handwritten note(3 pages on notebook paper) from my friend the other day and was so excited to read it! It was just to say “hi” and catch me up on her life but it was too fun to actually read a letter that came in the mail. I snuggled up on the couch and read a handwritten letter! I loved it!

As a high school English teacher it is my job to teach the art of writing. Each year we begin with the persuasive essay and continue teaching the various types of essays, expository, response to literature, narrative…yet each year I end with the art of the Thank-you card. I purchase 40-60 Thank-you cards and tell each of my students that after receiving a gift it is customary to send a hand written thank-you card. I ask them to reflect on the previous year and think of one teacher who has inspired them, changed them or just been a good teacher. Each student writes their card and I place them in the teacher’s mailbox. Each year teachers thank me for this assignment saying how much they look forward to it and what a joy it is to receive a hand written card from a student. Many of us hang on to these cards as reminders of why we decided to become teachers. The beauty of the thank-you note is that it can prove to be such a treasure.

My grandparents – though very active and spry – haven’t yet made the leap to computers or email, so I write them letters each month to keep them up to speed on what’s happening with my husband and me. We don’t live close to either set of gp’s, but the letters help us stay connected. Plus, I love getting a note back – every once in a while my grandma will include a crisp $2 bill!

We don’t do it very often, since it’s expensive, but we put little random things we pick up or pictures in it for fun.
