Fab Freebie: Hi, My Name Is…

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

We’re back with another fantastic prize that THREE lucky winners will be able to put their names on. This one comes from Customized Stationary, a fun little Etsy shop that features playfully designed cards and prints that you can customize with everything from your first name to your family name. And they’ve kindly put together three sweet sets for our winners to choose from (each which includes a print and set of coordinating notecards) that we were so enamored with we couldn’t help but snag a set for ourselves.

Custom Station Tree

Custom Station Birds

Custom Station Stump

We had trouble picking, but ended up going with the Carved Tree set, which we got to customize not only with our name and our initials carved into the tree, but also with our choice of colors. That way we ended up with a perfect-for-us set of stationary that was almost too good lookin’ to unwrap.

Custom Station Petersiks

Want a chance to customize your own set? Here are the giveaway deets:

  • PRIZE: 8×10″ print and coordinating twelve pack of 4 x 5.25 notecards in your selected design (Bird Family, Carved Tree or Stump). It’s a $27 value, but stay tuned for a YHL special discount at the end of the contest on Thursday.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “CUSTOMIZE ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: Tell us about one of the last handwritten letters your sent (or received). Seems to be a dying custom in the digital age, so what was memorable about a recent time you used snail mail to send something special?
  • CONTEST CLOSES: Wednesday, September 2nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: USA Only
  • THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I am hand-making wedding thank you cards and writing personalized notes. The thank you cards match the colors and motif of our invitations, which were also handmade, but on a slightly smaller scale. I love sending cards to friends on holidays and birthdays, and sending postcards while on vacation. Snail mail is the best, and I would be so excited to win these lovely cards!

CUSTOMIZE ME! I love writing notes and I love cool stationery just as much. I think my last hand written note was with a thank you – when we were kids we weren’t allowed to play with our Christmas gifts after Christmas Day until we had written our thank-you notes, and the habit definitely stuck!

You must have been reading my mind. Just last week I had a chat with my girlfriends about the dying art of writing letters. During college I used to write letters to my friends during summer breaks. I still have ones they sent me and will always cherish them.

But my most recent letters were sent to two teachers (one from college and one from high school). I wrote them just before the Thanksgiving holiday to tell them how thankful I am to have had them as teachers and how their courses influenced the person I am today. I never heard back from them but it felt good just telling them how important they were/are to me.

CUSTOMIZE ME- I was just talking with friends about the lost art of letter writing. My grandfather wasn’t an email or computer kind of guy so we used to write. I have saved all of his letters. He used to write me and tell me tales of family hisotry and of his time during WWII and the loss of his brother during WWII. We were quite the pen pals. Since my grandfather passed away, those letters are my most prized posession! I miss him dearly, but when i read those letters, it takes me back! Some day I will pass them down to my children! To see his hand writing and his own words, what a gift!

I have bad hand writing so I don’t tend to write much, but recently here my husband and I went on our “honeymoon” which was really a work trip for him. We didn’t take one when we got married to save money and waiting allowed us this chance which worked out great. we saved a ton of money! Wouldn’t have had it any other way! Anyways I sent a postcard from one of the cities we visited back home to our 7 yr old daughter (from a previous marriage). She loves getting mail.

Is it sad that I really can’t remember the last snail mail I’ve sent? I do remember getting letters from my grandfather on yellow lined paper when I was in college detailing how things were going for him and my grandmother and telling fabulous stories about his life. I looked forward to those letters every month. Sadly I no longer receive them, although I’m sure if I would mention how much I adored his letters he would continue to write. Something to think about…

My grandparents recently just moved into a nursing home and are having some difficulty adjusting. Since I don’t get to seem them as often as I’d like, I send them weekly letters and sometimes include random things like pictures of the dog or a project I’m working on so they can a little bit of my life that week.

I just sent out 5 thank you notes and realized I need more stationary. My sweet gals from college floated my share for our annual beach trip in order to get me to attend. My husband is between projects right now (like so many people) and I just couldn’t spend the money. Well, my gals wouldn’t hear of it and offered to pay my share. I agreed promising them I’ll pay them back as soon as hubby books a job. I wrote them all notes to say thank you for their tremendous generosity.

I love to send it and love to receive it. The price of stamps will have to get a LOT higher than they are for my love to grow cold. Email is amazing and convenient, but nothing substitutes for a handwritten note!
