Fab Freebie: Hi, My Name Is…

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

We’re back with another fantastic prize that THREE lucky winners will be able to put their names on. This one comes from Customized Stationary, a fun little Etsy shop that features playfully designed cards and prints that you can customize with everything from your first name to your family name. And they’ve kindly put together three sweet sets for our winners to choose from (each which includes a print and set of coordinating notecards) that we were so enamored with we couldn’t help but snag a set for ourselves.

Custom Station Tree

Custom Station Birds

Custom Station Stump

We had trouble picking, but ended up going with the Carved Tree set, which we got to customize not only with our name and our initials carved into the tree, but also with our choice of colors. That way we ended up with a perfect-for-us set of stationary that was almost too good lookin’ to unwrap.

Custom Station Petersiks

Want a chance to customize your own set? Here are the giveaway deets:

  • PRIZE: 8×10″ print and coordinating twelve pack of 4 x 5.25 notecards in your selected design (Bird Family, Carved Tree or Stump). It’s a $27 value, but stay tuned for a YHL special discount at the end of the contest on Thursday.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “CUSTOMIZE ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: Tell us about one of the last handwritten letters your sent (or received). Seems to be a dying custom in the digital age, so what was memorable about a recent time you used snail mail to send something special?
  • CONTEST CLOSES: Wednesday, September 2nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: USA Only
  • THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I have been trying to send more hand-written letters. Email has kind of taken over my communication unfortunately. The last letter that I actually wrote was to my sister on her birthday. She’s 25 now and that just reminds me that time is flying by!

I don’t think you could really call it a letter, but I did send a hand-made card (my own design) to my mom a few weeks ago. I love sending loved ones cards the cards I make!

    “Customize me!”

My family and friends are wonderful about sending cards & letters for special occasions, but the special notes I love the most are the ones given for no special reason. For example, I mailed my grandparents a card out of the blue to tell them how much I appreciate our wonderful family. They were so delighted that the card was displayed proudly on the front of their fridge for quite some time.

I’m a big note-writer but it’s a dying art in our generation, so when my friend deployed to Iraq I had postcards made at snapfish using all sorts of fun pictures, and mailed them in an envelope to her friends stamped, addressed and ready for them to add a note and drop in the mail. She said it was always a treat to see smiling faces while she was overseas!

The last note I wrote was to my best friend since childhood (33 yrs!) while her mom was in the hospital dying. Hold on, this is not a sad depressing note…
I had so many fond memories of her mom since I spent most of my childhood playing and growing up at her house. So I made a list of “Things I learned from Mrs. Ball…” with a list of special memories I will never forget about times shared with her. They were so personal that anyone who knew her would totally get it. For example, “The Carrot Top is THE place to get the best veggies and fruit” (she used to take us kids there every weekend). Or “You must have an adult present when jumping on the trampoline” (a rule VERY important to her – I can almost hear her telling us rugrats that now!).
Anyway, she passed away 4 days after I sent that letter to my best friend. It made her cry, but it was happy tears because her mom was such an amazing person that touched many lives.
I think that was one of the nicest things I have done for my best friend. The next one is being the Maid of Honor in her wedding, only 6 months after her mom’s passing.

Soemetimes the effects of an old fashioned note card are priceless and can not be duplicated via email.

I LOVE sending handwritten notes almost as I love receiving them. The last one I sent was to my mother in law to thank her for a home depot gift card which we applied to a front loading washer and dryer. The last one I received was from my husband’s grandmother (92!) to thank us for some chocolates that we brought with us from Germany.

It’s funny how appreciative people are for handwritten notes. I’ve noticed I get much more attentive feedback from them as opposed to emails.

My (now) husband is the last person who wrote me via snail mail. I lived overseas prior to us getting married and we wrote back and forth across the big pond. We’ve kept most of them (threw some away b/c we had a short breakup!!), and they’ll always be a treasure for us. I still enjoy writing/receiving notes in the mail versus getting them via e-mail. It definitely is a long lost art. –JOY

I try to write hand written notes occasionally (mostly birthday/anniversary cards, though). I just wrote one to my friend’s daughter as part of a little back to school gift I got her.

Also, the carved tree design is great! My husband and I used trees as part of our theme for our wedding and on one, we had our initials “carved” into a heart in the drawing of a tree. So cute. I would totally chose that set if I won!

Last week, she came home, asked her mom (my sister) to show her the mail and said, “Auntie Suzie didn’t send me anything.” I’m sure she would love a little note, and would put it on display in the painted wall turned bulletin board in her room – my old bedroom :o).
