Fab Freebie: Hi, My Name Is…

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

We’re back with another fantastic prize that THREE lucky winners will be able to put their names on. This one comes from Customized Stationary, a fun little Etsy shop that features playfully designed cards and prints that you can customize with everything from your first name to your family name. And they’ve kindly put together three sweet sets for our winners to choose from (each which includes a print and set of coordinating notecards) that we were so enamored with we couldn’t help but snag a set for ourselves.

Custom Station Tree

Custom Station Birds

Custom Station Stump

We had trouble picking, but ended up going with the Carved Tree set, which we got to customize not only with our name and our initials carved into the tree, but also with our choice of colors. That way we ended up with a perfect-for-us set of stationary that was almost too good lookin’ to unwrap.

Custom Station Petersiks

Want a chance to customize your own set? Here are the giveaway deets:

  • PRIZE: 8×10″ print and coordinating twelve pack of 4 x 5.25 notecards in your selected design (Bird Family, Carved Tree or Stump). It’s a $27 value, but stay tuned for a YHL special discount at the end of the contest on Thursday.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “CUSTOMIZE ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: Tell us about one of the last handwritten letters your sent (or received). Seems to be a dying custom in the digital age, so what was memorable about a recent time you used snail mail to send something special?
  • CONTEST CLOSES: Wednesday, September 2nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: USA Only
  • THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I wrote my husband a letter on our wedding day. We weren’t seeing each other before the ceremony, but I wanted him to know how I was feeling and how excited I was for that day. Technically, it wasn’t mailed, but my maid of honor delivered it to him by hand at the church. We still have it with all our other wedding items, and cherish it.

Last week I sent a handwritten letter of encouragement and hope to my uncle who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer. Mass produced cards cannot possibly capture all that needs to be said in a situation such as this. I used my favorite stationary purchased in Venice a few years ago.

What a lovely giveaway. I absolutely love the first one.

Let’s see… I did just receive a handwritten thank you card in the mail from a shower I attended/hosted, but I can’t even remember the last letter I received. Makes me sad actually. The last handwritten letter that I sent was to my little sister when she was at camp in July.

My last note was a thank you note to my parents. They recently moved to California, and I visited them to check out their new place. I was seriously spoiled with some good cooking, wine drinking, and exploring. The least I could do was mail a note of thanks!

i have a friend who is a child survivor of the holocaust. her parents sent her to america from vienna through a private jewish group that somehow got permission to adopt 50 (and only 50) kids from austria. the kids had to go through rigorous testing in order to ‘win’ a spot. she has an amazing story that i actually wrote my senior history thesis on. it’s difficult for her on the phone and the email that i had for her was wrong, so i wrote her a letter to find out what her new email address was and how she is doing. she’s had a hard summer, but i was glad that we could correspond with each other again! now i have her email, but i think we’ll probably keep up the writing. :) i think she prefers that way. she’s always sending me nice notes and cards.

    CUSTOMIZE ME…

My husband and I just got married this past April, and we had two rules when it came to our thank you’s: 1) We had to write them within a week of receiving each present and 2) We each wrote a little note on every single thank you note, instead of just signing both of our names with one of us authoring. I can’t tell you how many of our friends (well, mostly our parents’ friends!) have raved over the super-personalized nature of our thank you’s. It made it completely worth the effort!

My favorite person to write handwritten letters to, is my husband’s grandmother. She is 94 and we have a great relationship. She doesn’t have a computer so, I always try and pick out cute note cards to send her. I haven’t sent her two the same in 7 years. She does the same in return and it’s so much fun to see her letters in my mailbox and which cards she’s used. I hope that at 94, I’ll still be writing letters!

We had two birthday parties this month for my girls. Since one of them is only a year old, I wrote her thank you cards. My older daughter (14) wrote her own thank you’s. I think it is important to teach kids to send thank you cards (and they HAVE to be handwritten).

The last handwritten mail I sent was to my nephew. His birthday was yesterday so we sent him a card last week. As for letters, I only write to my Great Aunt in East Texas. She doesn’t have a computer so I either have to call or write. Oh, and she doesn’t have voicemail or answering machine so you have to catch her at home if you want to get her on the phone. It is just easier to write.

My grandmother still hand-writes all her notes, and I save every one. Not only do they (and everything else that comes from her house) smell like her perfume, but they all contain those little, snarky, dry-witted comments so befitting iron-spined Brit she is.

For example (remember to read in a British accent):
“Happy Birthday Katie! This year, you turn 19. You know, by the time I was 19 I was already married to your grandfather, and I would be pregnant with your uncle by the end of the year. Do you have a boyfriend yet? You are my only grandchild and I so hope the family line doesn’t die with you. Have you had any boyfriends yet? Have you considered changing your hair? It might help. I hope you have a lovely day and I hear from you soon. Lots of love, darling. Grandma.”

The notes drive me crazy now, but I know I’ll miss them when they’re gone.
