Fab Freebie: Got A Light?

We love giving away lamps, what can we say. So if you didn’t come out on top last week, here’s another shot at taking home a stylish piece of lighting for your home.

This week’s prize comes from The Shade Shop & Lighting Gallery located in nearby Charlottesville, Virginia. They offer a diverse and ever-changing gallery of table lamps, floor lamps, chandeliers, sconces, tables and (of course) lamp shades.  In fact, they’re brimming with excitement over the new line of Bunny Williams lamps that just arrived. Plus, the Shade Shop offers custom lampwork and repair, meaning if you want something unique they can make it AND they can fix it if you happen to break it.

But hopefully you’ll have trouble breaking the antique-nickel-clad Lucy Accent Lamp (valued at $298) that they’ve put up for grabs this week. Check it out below:

To enter to win just comment on this post with the words “GIMME A LIGHT” by Wednesday, March 4th at 8pm EST. And since this prize hails from my alma mater’s hometown, we’d love to hear what you loved most about your college hometown. I could go on and on about Charlottesville- after all it was once named the #1 place to live in the US. And we could probably name quite a few things we love about Sherry’s college town (NYC) too, considering it’s where we met. This prize can be shipped to the lower 48 United States and as always, only one entry per e-mail address is allowed. Good luck…

You can get the full scoop on our giveaways right here. Image courtesy of Barnes & Noble.

    GIMME A LIGHT!

There are many, many things I loved about my college town — the historic neighborhoods I would power-walk through, the vegetarian/vegan friendly dining establishment in Old Town (not vegetarian, but MAN that food was good)oh, and I loved that it had four season — first time I learned about salting snow, that all trees bud, etc. Quite the education!

I loved my collegetown. Columbia, MO–Home of the TIGERS!!!It was small enough but big enough to not feel too small. At the time, I would probably have said the great drink specials. Ah, you can’t find cheap beer like that anymore, lol!

I went to college in South Bend, IN, and I loved the small town and the people. Of course, football Saturdays in the fall were awesome, but the people made it the most special time for me.

I went to college at the University of Kansas, and Lawrence is an awesome college town! I love the downtown area (Mass Street) for its unique local shops, great food (Free State Brewery!) and bars where I spent many a fun night drinking margaritas at Quintins.

    Love that lamp!

My college hometown was Charleston, Illinois. I liked the small town charm and close community feeling. I also appreciated the history of an older community.

I loved my school b/c of all of the people in colonial garb walking around campus…it’s not everyday you see a guy in a tri-cornered hat on a cell phone smoking a cigarette! Truthfully, I loved the history there. Go TRIBE!

I went to Iowa State in Ames and I really miss the campus and the town itself. Central campus was designed by Olmsted and Vaux who also designed Central Park in New York City. It’s such a great open space and really makes it feel less crowded. It’s a school with usually around 26-28,000 undergrad, but it never feels that way! I also miss: Hickory Park, Great Plains Pizza Dough Co., and West Street Deli. If you’re ever in Ames, IA check any of those places out :)

People that have never been to Kansas before, may write off Lawrence as a small, culture-less, farm town. Well, nothing could be further than the truth. Lawrence is home to KU Basketball (the actual game of basketball was invented here!), many eclectic shops, boutiques and restaurants and many various venues to catch your favorite rock star in action. The University of Kansas is truly the heart of Lawrence, but the town in general is a lovely mix of small town feel, liberal open-mindedness and mid-western values. A great place to tailgate before a Jayhawk football game, catch a foreign film or take a stroll through one of the most beautiful college campuses in the mid-west.

I went to a community college so I didn’t have a college town. I commuted to and from school. But the town that the school was in was a rather crummy area. The school was great, but the neighborhood – not so much.

I went to Loras College in good ol Dubuque, IA! I grew up there, and have since moved away with my husband for a better job offer. I’m always trying to get us to move back there, but it seems as thought it may be 2-3 years before we get back. I miss the small town, great restaurants and of course everyone’s favorite saying there’s a beer and a church on every corner! haha :-)

I went to college in Gainesville, Florida at the University of Florida, and I still live here! I love it because it’s big enough to have everything I need but small enough to still call a town. There’s a great music scene and lots of little hipster hangouts and coffee shops all over the place. Downtown is always fun to explore and there’s a big art scene, as well as a few fabulous farmer’s markets. And the fact that we’re the home of the FLORIDA GATORS doesn’t hurt, either :o)
It’s a great place to be!

Love your giveaways! I’m a Univ. of Illinois alum, located in lovely Urbana-Champaign, IL. Though in the middle of cornfields, Chambana (as it is affectionately called by some) has gorgeous old homes that many owners take great pride in keeping beautiful. I always loved driving through the neighborhoods in the spring to go “house hunting”.

I went to the University of Mobile in sunny Mobile, AL. Mobile was a great college town–an hour from the beach, the birthplace of Mardi Gras, and just brimming with southern hospitality! UM is a small school, and its campus is on the outskirts of the city; so, I got all the perks of a close-knit community and a buzzing city wrapped up in one! Laissez les bon temps rouler!

Fairfax, VA was my college town and being from Southern California, I loved the SNOW! I had never been in snow before and I remember waking up one day during my first semester to the ground all covered in white. Unfortunately, it was during that same snowstorm that my boyfriend and I decided to drive down to IKEA in Woodbridge for the very first time. We had no idea how to drive on icy roads and were lucky we made it back alive!

Another Florida grad here! Gainesville (or Gainesvegas, as we liked to call it) really is a great college town. Everyone cheers for the home team, and there’s something for everyone as far as neighborhoods, shopping, and restaurants go (everyone except FSU Seminoles, I guess!). I have to say, though, Charlottesville is another great college town. My grandmother lives there, and I used to love spending Christmas and summers visiting, and I almost went there for grad school, I loved it so much!

Univ of IL grad here – Champaign is a real college town – football and basketball games, gorgeous campus (With Honors was filmed there), good pizza, midwest hospitality and friendliness, party atmosphere. The weirdest thing about college was how pretty much everyone was smart. You could be at the top of your class in high school, and then go to U of I and be just another average student. Go Illini!
