I was gifted w/ my engagement ring! We spent July 3rd playing board games – the fireworks had been cancelled because it was raining so we stayed in all night.
I woke up the next morning, very late, around 8am (VERY late for us!), and it was so bright and sunny and the funny thing was that my boyfriend was still there. He’s usually up and out at the crack of dawn.
I asked him why he was still there and he said he just wanted to stay by me… I stretched hard and then saw it.
The ring was on my finger! He was afraid to go outside ’cause it was a little too big and he was afraid I’d drop it in the toilet or something before I realized it was on my hand!!! The first words out of my mouth were, “Is this for real?” When he said yes, then I asked if I could tell my mother, his mother, his SISTER, and when he said yes, I knew it was for real!!!

Even though we’re more financially comfortable now, my favorite gift surprise was when my now husband and I were dating. We were both BROKE… so one day he surprised me with a bouquet of wildflowers… in an orange juice carton for a vase. It was wonderful. One of the best gifts I ever received was a day full of surprises all organized by my best friend. We went out to breakfast, spent the morning getting our hair cut and manicures, then met lots of friends for lunch, then went to the arcade to play our favorite game and then to the pottery shop to make handmade plates, etc. It was such a great day!
