Fab Freebie: Bestå Friends

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!

If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.

IKEA BYOF Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

    BYOF ME!

My BFF and I met in the 8th grade. We are now 38. We have lived in different states over the years, but recently she and her husband moved their family back to Portland (where I live with my husband and three kiddos). It is amazing to watch the friendship unfold between our children now… a new generation of BFFs.

    BYOF Me!!!

My BFF and I met when we were 5, our birthdays are one day apart. When we were in elementary school, her brother and I liked each other and she liked her brother’s best friend…15 years later I married her brother’s best friend haha Probably the weirdest thing we did was share gum and/or toothbrushes. Or the way we ate cake, she ate the frosting, I would eat the cake.

My best friend is Emily – we met in high school when she was the TA for my rhetoric class and have been friends through multiple moves and living across the country from each other on more than one occasion. We’re awkward and fun and love to eat sugary brunches and play with our dogs and watch Say Yes To The Dress. She’s just the best.

BYOF ME! My BFF and I met when she moved in with her mom, two houses down from us. Her husband was military and got deployed. She was too chicken to stay in her country home alone with her daughter, so she and her daughter moved in with her mom while he was deployed. That was in 2002. Things have changed a ton since then. She’s moved all over the country and we’re still besties. As for names, we have none. Weird stuff? Lots. The funniest is probably when we used to lay out in the kiddie pool on floats that basically took up the entire pool. (Summer humidity here is torture.)
It would be awesome to surprise her with a gift card. :)

    “BYOF ME!”

We met in a college theater class, lost each others phone numbers, and reconnected through other friends! We are theatrical, artsy, grounded, and not afraid to let our freak flags fly. We play lots of games together, RPG’s, board/car games, ect. She and her husband introduced me to my boyfriend and I think she did better hooking me up than I ever did!

My hubby is my BFF. We met in college, when he was 21 and I was underage and walked in carrying a giant bottle of rum (which is funny because I never did drink very much). And the rest is history. Our favorite thing to do together is sleep in on Saturday mornings as long as our dog (a Brittany spaniel named Morrie) will let us, then spend some quality family time playing with / picking on Morrie.

I met my best friend in middle school (oh dear, has it really been almost 20 years…?). Our favorite thing to do it lay around being silly. It’s a good friend who you can tell to come over and watch you clean your house so it’s more entertaining.

I always thought that the cliche of “marrying your best friend” was weird and hokey and a little codependent… But then I met my mister, and he truly is my best friend. We love spending time together doing absolutely anything, we have goofy conversations, it truly is a relationship built on friendship.

My BFF and I met in high school and we were inseparable. He started calling me “Pocket”, because he wanted to stick me in his pocket and carry me around everywhere. He moved to Morocco and my husband and I visited him there on our honeymoon. Our family talks to him still all the time and we both cross ponds once in awhile, and he rarely ever uses my name, I’m just Pocket now. Haha! We miss him.
