Fab Freebie: Bestå Friends

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!

If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.

IKEA BYOF Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

My BFF is my hubby. We met at college over 7 years ago and started dating a few years later. Now we have been married for 3 years and have 2 little ones keeping us busy. His name is Jordan but I call him Georgie. We went to IKEA once and he spent the whole time showing different stuffed animals to our 20 month old son waiting for a positive reaction toward one stuffed animal so he could take home a special something for our little guy. He’s a sweet one.

My best friend and I have known each other since kindergarten but we were just passing ships until Senior year in high school when we became besties. If I won I would give one to him and one to my roommate to college (who I also love to pieces) who just moved into her first real house and could definitely use the furnishing.

I met my BFF during band camp held before the start of my freshman year of high school… way back in 1989. It was the last day of camp, which meant it was also the honorary water balloon bombing of the freshman class. She chased me over a fence and into the backyard of a house with a large and rather angry rottweiler. Needless to say I quickly scurried back over the fence before the dog got to me, was pelted by her water balloons, and we’ve been best friends ever since. She’s my sister from a different mister, and I love her to pieces!

When I had my 1st child (and she already had 3 by the same time) she came to help me right after I gave birth – her support meant so much to me!

We met in first grade when she defended me from a bully. We still giggle until our tummies hurt when we are together. Petunia and Herman were popular nicknames when we were in middle school. Our secret handshake is Skype, as we live 3,000 miles apart. She is expecting a baby soon, so I will give her my giftcard if I win.

My BFF and I met as roommates 6 years ago. Our favorite thing to do together is to spend a hot, summer day swimming for a few hours, then sit on the couch eating cheesy popcorn, and watching Friends. Even with our long distance relationship (her in Michigan, me in California), we think of each other whenever we eat cheesy popcorn!

I met my best friend when I was young. my family fell on hard times and we ended up having to spend a little while in a homeless shelter. My best friend’s mom ran the homeless shelter and she brought some of her daughters books in for me to read. one day her daughter came to work with her and we bonded over RL Stine and the like.

We’ve seen each other through ridiculous ups and downs but there is no one else I would rather have been with through those times.

My best friend and I don’t actually remember when we formally; we can deduce it was sometime in the fall of 2007 and in the general vicinity of my dorm, but nothing firmer than that. Over the past 6 years our friendship became tighter (and survived being roommates for a year with no ill effects!) we’ve come to realize that we’re kind of the same person… except in different bodies. We love to do anything together, which many times resulted in eating junk food and watching Sci-fi or DIY shows at midnight instead of doing our homework. She recently moved to Seattle and I miss her terribly. :(
