Fab Freebie: Bestå Friends

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!

If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.

IKEA BYOF Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

    BYOF me (please?)!

My BFF is also my husband. Something a little unusual about us: We spend an inordinate amount of time driving 4 hours to the closest Ikea in Portland, OR. It makes for one heck of a day trip! :)

My bestie and I have been friends since fifth grade–and that was a long time ago (yikes, I just did the math: 25+ years)! We’ve made it through so many life changes together and seem to get closer the older we get. Though we grew up in another town from where we live now, we live about 5 min away from each other, our husbands go to home football games together, and our moms are friends through our friendship.

BYOF ME! I met my BFF in college, we took Latin and several history classes together. One day, whilst randomly bored at a party, we looked up our Chinese Zodiac animal signs and have been calling each other Tig (her) and Monkey (me) ever since.

She’s smart, pretty, and always encouraging. Every now and then she threatens to “quit” me but I just laugh, after all, where the heck does she think she’s gonna get another me…lol.

BYOF me! My BFF, Lynette, and I became besties after she b@tch slapped me in 7th grade. She thought it was funny, I didn’t, she apologized, and we’ve been inseparable since(11 years). Clearly, I’m a very forgiving person. She is welcome. We don’t have a handshake, but we do have matching shirts that say “I didn’t slap you, I high-fived your face!”

George Michael (AKA the man with an angel’s voice) brought us together. Here’s how:

My BFF, Samantha, and I became best of friends our senior year of high school. She was giving me a ride home from practice when I noticed a Wham! cassette tape on her dash. Not only were there two crazies who had snatched their moms’ slammin’ tunes, but there were two crazies brave enough to blare Andrew Ridgeley and George Michael’s sweet melodies up and down town in the new millennium. Those whispers were careless, GM.

Also, we call each other “numb nuths” or “numb nuts” but with a lisp. If you haven’t seen 50 First Dates, I encourage you to watch it just to see Sean Astin in a pinny. Love me some mesh.

My BFF is a friend I met in first grade. We can go for a year or two without keeping in touch, aside from Christmas cards, and not skip a beat. James Taylor’s “You’ve Got a Friend” is our song and we sign our notes with the mysterious “Kaysho, Sis.”

It’s about as far to the one in Charlotte as it is to the one near Potomac Mills from where we live–Lynchburg, VA. I was in IKEA Burbank 2 weeks ago with my daughter who has become a California gal who loves IKEA. Guess that will tell you who I’d share the gift cards with! :-)

My BFF and I met in preschool! We just happened to live with in a block of each other and only spent our preschool years together. After that I went on to public school and she went to catholic school. Now we are in our 30’s, both married with kids and live in different states. To this day she is the only person who has made me pee my pants from laughing so hard! I can’t imagine life without her!
