Fab Freebie: Bestå Friends

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!

If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.

IKEA BYOF Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

My favorite thing about me best friend is that she is totally chill…may sound like a funny quality, but when your both raising kids, running homes, and just living life, and are different people, having someone to accept you without any judgement, just makes all the difference.

My best friend is my husband…dorky but true :). We met when he lost his car keys at the county fair during high school and was stranded in my town. We were 17 at the time and are still happily together.

I met one of my besties about 10 years ago while volunteering! I think we first met either during a clean up of one area downtown or it was during a Habitat event and were immediate friends. A couple of weeks later we were on the same Relay for Life team and spent hours walking around the track talking. By the end of the event, we were bffs for life!

My BFF is Brooke, formerly known as Belinda Scarlisle. We met in Chicago, as teammates on a roller derby league. I was Terrin Y’UP. When we met we were both single and looking to make friends, she was new to town, I was the last single girl in my college group of friends. Since then we’ve both gotten married, both have daughters and both moved again, me to TX and her to GA. We share a love for blogs, decor, baby girls, baked goods and all things IKEA.

My BFF are my sisters (I get two!) Being the oldest, I got to meet them when they were born, and our relationships have grown and changed and turned into something wonderful over the years. We also refer to Ikea as our happy place; it’s a guaranteed outing when either one is in town.

My best friend is a domestic goddess. Even in high school she had a bumper sticker on her car that said, “Get a real job…be a housewife!”. AND she works full-time as a teacher. (Crazy amazing woman, she is.)

She’s always been a fantastic cook, and even though I was woefully inept in high school, by now I’ve picked up some decent cooking skills. So we like to cook together in her gigantic, fabulous kitchen. Before she had her baby we made 20 different freezer meals while listening to music 1990s-2000s on the radio. It was a fabulous day. :)

My BFF’s name is Dani. We met in middle school where we “dated” the same boy [middle school dating doesn’t count] and we’ve been BFFs since 8th grade. We had nicknames [Mo & Jo- for anonymous note-writing in middle & high school] and our “song” is “Happy Together” by The Turtles. Yes, there are hand motions. :)

We met the first week of freshman year. Within two weeks of knowing each other we decided we’d live together the following year and be in each others weddings. We lived together the following 3 years and have been friends for 10. After living together for 3 years, I’m not even sure I could choose just one thing weird thing we’ve done together.

BYOF Me! And my two besties!
Steph and I met in the pool at the JCC here in DC. I got guilt tripped in the locker room into taking water aerobics (even though I was on my way to the gym) and she was swimming laps. The instructor insisted that Steph got out of the pool for her “class” (that would be me) I begged her with my eyes to please stay. Turned out that we took the same train home and we exchanged numbers. That was ten years ago. I stayed put in DC but she’s been all over. She is the one I turn to when I need talking off the ledge.
Karen has been the sister I never had since high school. Her happiness is my happiness, her sadness, mine. It’s an innate connection.
I hope I get to share some Ikea with them!

I have known my best friend since birth because our dad’s worked together. We grew up in different cities so we didnt go to school together until high school, but we were always doing stuff on the weekends. My best memories are all the times we used to go camping with our families and friends. Now that were older we’ll go out for dinner, or stay in and play board games with our boyfriends.
