My best friend and I met on Valentine’s Day in sixth grade. I had just moved to Texas from Alaska and was having trouble adjusting. I wasn’t just adjusting to a new state (with new weather) but also from elementary school to middle school (levels were different in the two states). I had bought valentines but had no friends to give them to, so I gave them to my family. My mom encouraged me to take a few to school on Valentine’s Day anyway. That day our reading teacher was absent, so the class was split up into a couple of different groups to be sent to different classes. My best friend and I ended up together; she started talking to me as we sat out in the hallway. We talked so much, I ended up giving her one of my valentines. We’ve been best friends ever since, and we met 17 years ago. :)
