Fab Freebie: Bestå Friends

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!

If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.

IKEA BYOF Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

I met my best friend about 10 years ago at college. The older we get, the more we find we have in common which, frankly blows my mind. I can’t wait until he and his wife (I got them together!) have kids so I can be an auntie!

I met my BFF a little over a year ago through a running club. We’re practically inseparable now, and I’m so grateful to have such a kind, supportive, generous friend in my life. One quirky thing we do is assign code names to the different men we meet. At first they were simple labels: Joe #1, Joe #2, Blonde Bryan, Bald Bryan, etc. But now we have more fun with them: Clark Kent, Teflon, Jello, Chocolate Cake, etc. These conversations always leave us giggling like high schoolers… :)

I have 2 BFFs. The first is my husband. I’ve known him for 12 1/2 years, and we’ve been married for half of that time. It didn’t take too long after we met for him to become my bestie. The other is my sister. People often think we’re twins, even though I am 9 1/2 years older than she is! As for nicknames, I’m Snack-Shack and my sis is Hopscotch. Don’t ask.

BYOF ME! We met when she toured the high school in 10th grade before moving, and we hit it off right away. We used to hit up the thrift stores all the time in high school (yay, 90’s huge clothing). I’m going home in a few weeks, and it’ll be great to go to the same stores again, but this time for furniture to DIY, instead of ironic t-shirts. Friends 4 ever.

My best friend and I met in middle school. I don’t think we do much weird stuff any more (maybe because we don’t live in the same city?) but when we were younger we used to pretend to be models and have photo shoots and we would watch Dirty Dancing over and over!

My best friend is my other half! We met when my parents moved in across the street 12 years ago, and now both of our families have become one. We used to play tons of hand games in French (which I picked up sticking around her house for a looooong time) until it drove our parents nuts.

My BFF and I met in 5th grade band – we were in the same band but at different schools. Her mom has a home video of me jumping in front of the camera at a band competition. We don’t remember meeting then, but met again in 10th grade when we were in band again (in a completely different city/school district!) and figured out we were both from the same place.

And we both have fake front teeth (also separate incidents.)
