And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!
If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.
- PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
- ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

I’ve known by BFF since we were about 4. We weren’t always BFF though :(
I call her Dora (Finding Nemo) because she forgets EVERYTHING & speaks Whale after a glass or two of vino!
Luckily she doesn’t have a nick name for me, she’d probably forget if she did think one up anyways…Haha!!

My BFF and I met at work. She was a veteran teacher and saw how I was struggling at a new school after I got transferred. She calls me her “other daughter” and I call her my “other mom”. We even look like we’re related.

BYOF ME! My BFF lives in another state but we talk almost daily thanks to cell phones. She’s going thru a bad divorce right now so I’d give her $200 in GF and keep one for me and take her shopping! We’ve been friends since 6th grade so we have decades of funny things to reminisce about!

BYOF ME!
I’ll try not to make it an essay. :-)
My best friend and I met in the 7th grade and have been inseparable for the last 17 years. She pretty much lived at my house all through our youth and we even left town to go to the same University together. We were college roommates, post-college roommates, and now she lives with me and my husband (who I’m so lucky to know adores my bff as well). My husband explains our friendship as such: “You are – separately – two of the smartest people I know. But when you’re in the same room, it’s like you share half a brain.”
We communicate via inside jokes – particularly, having each other’s priorities straight. Or, my personal favorite: “You always understand me, even when you don’t. Know what I mean? Of course you do.”

BYOF ME! My best friend and I met on our first day of our college gymnastics practice and it was basically friendship love at first glance. We love doing anything together but usually try and go to the beach once a year.

BYOF ME!
I met my best friend practically when she was born! Family friends and neighbors for our whole lives, practically sisters!
Jenn says
BYOF ME!!! My BFF and I have been friends for over 25 years! One of our favorite weird things used to be confusing people who thought we were sisters. We have the same first name (Jennifer) so when people would ask if we were sisters, we’d just say “Yes, our Mom was lazy, she gave us the same name so she only had to call us once.” Scary part is we look enough alike that the not so bright ones believed us, lol.

BYOF ME!
I have known my best friend for 21 years…we lived on the same street. I have all brothers and she is like the sister I never had. We make each other pretty drunk with laughter, so our nicknames usually have something to do with alcoholic beverages (even though we both don’t drink :)
Karla says
BYOF me!
I met my best friend in 2nd grade. We were in a tumbling class together and we used to have to pick partners for sit-ups…one pink bubblgum note was all it took (“Will you do sit-ups with me on Monday?”)…and we’ve been friends for over 30 years.
Laura says
BYOF ME! My best friend and I met in second grade. She moved into my neighborhood, and our teacher asked me to show her around. We have been best friends for almost 22 years now. My baby sister had a hard time saying our names when she was little, so she called me Wawa and my best friend Itty. The names have stuck. We have a language that we started speaking at the age of 10, that we still pull out from time to time when we want to impress (ha!) someone. She always makes me laugh and we have more personal jokes than we know what to do with.
Melinda Parker says
BYOF ME!!!
My best friend and I met when we were in 6th grade. She moved to Colorado from Alaska and I immediately liked her because she has an infectious smile, but really because she was the only girl taller than me and without a tan!! We talk daily to this day and she and I do internet shopping together since we live 1000+ miles apart. She calls me Milly and I call her Pee-Pan (her real name is Leanne!)and our husbands are completely baffled at the warp speed conversations we have whenever we are together.

We stood up in each other’s weddings and have 4 boys between us (all within 2 years of each other). Love that girl!
