And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!
If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.
- PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
- ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

My BFF and I met before either one of us can remember. We were both babies at our community pool and our older brothers were the same age and began to have play dates together. Eventually our parents would swap…one would take the boys and the other would take the girls for play dates. It’s amazing how after all these years (at least 26) and countless life changes how much she still knows me better than anyone else.

My best friend and I met through church stuff. We’ve been friends for 15 years now. She & her family moved away last year and it’s been hard. But she is a kindred spirit.

My BFF and I met while we were working for AmeriCorps in Sacramento. We are now both living in Portsmouth NH less than 5 miles from each other. She is more like a sister. We both are decorating new homes, so this would be awesome!!

BYOF me…..
I met my bff, Anjie, on the second day of high school freshman year. It was a brand new school system for me so I latched on to her pretty tight. Followed her home from from school that day and many afternoons that followed in the next four years. We survived college, close calls in dating and marriage. She now has a 1 year old son and we never got around to our long-planned pranks of my acting a fool with pillows up my shirt alongside her actual pregnancy. Maybe she’ll be the jester when it’s mine turn!

My BFF and I met when we were just 2 so I’ve known her forever. While we live a few states apart, we still chat on the phone on a regular basis. She doesn’t share my passion for DIY though.

I met my best friend the summer before freshman year of high school. She had just moved to the area from Indiana and took the same drama class as I did. We were both terrified to be in high school and it made for the perfect bonding experience. 16 years later we are still the best of friends!

My BFF and I grew up right next door to each other. We both have the same first name as do our dads (same as each other – not ours)! I call her mushroom toes – squatty short toes on that girl!

BYOF me! This may sound shocking, but this is my first visit to your site AND I’ve never been to Ikea before. Like ever! The closest one to where I live is about 8 hrs away!
My BFF is Susie and we call each other “Squid” haha! Makes me laugh just thinking about it! Came totally out of the blue(our nickname AND our friendship) but just at the right time. I did not like her for the first year adter we met. I was rude and caddy and thank God she didn’t hold it against me. She is a huge blessing to me and one of the only people ive met and feel I can truly be myself around. She pushes me to be a better wife, mom, friend, leader, and follower of Jesus just be being herself. She is awesome!!

I met my best friends in law school. There are 4 of us total, referred to affectionately as “Microwaves.” “Microwaves” comes from the deep and enduring love and need law students have for quick meals and coffee warmed up.

BYOF me! Cheesy as it sounds, my best friend is my husband. We met at a networking event six years ago, became good friends, and a year later realized we were more interested in each other than anyone we were meeting so started dating and the rest is history! I have my eye on the Ikea DUKTIG kitchen (I’m not as crafty as you guys at YHL when it comes to kid toys) for our brand-new 1 year old so if I win, I know exactly how I’m spending the gift card!

My husband is hands down the best friend I have ever had! There are too many inside jokes to mention, and more than our fair share of mushy nicknames for one another! My best girlfriend and I met 17 years ago in the 7th grade!! We always said we were closer than two fat thighs, lol, and I still got her back any day!

My BFF and I met in college choir many years ago (along with our husbands – who are our other besties). Our favorite things to do together are go to Disney World, and play Spades around the dining room table with our husbands. We don’t get to do either anymore, since we moved across country four years ago. I would love to send her a gift card as an I Love & Miss You gift!

My best friend is my hubby. I know, I know, everyone says that, but he really is. We met 12 years ago and we still celebrate the day we met and/or our first date. Its more important to him I think than our wedding anniversary. Nicknames…He calls me Kate (my middle name) to get my attention and now my 2.5 year old calls me Cake sometimes because she thinks that’s my real name! LOL I just call him Honey which means something a bit more because he’s a beekeeper too. ;)
