And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!
If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.
- PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
- ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

I finally found the best friend I’ve been missing my whole life- about 3 years ago. Conveniently, our daughters are best friends, we knew each other in middle school, and our husbands were friends in high school. We just needed the right timing. We don’t know how we made it this far without each other!

BYOF me!!!
My BBF is my husband and we met 7 years ago at a bowling tournament in college and we’ve been BFF ever since :) Please his office is right next to the Ikea so we have lunch dates there often! Gift cards would be amazing!

My BFF were college roommates … but first, I met her boyfriend at a party, thought he was cute, flirted with him all night and then realized she was way cooler. It’s been over a decade and we’re closer than ever. She’s the sister I never had.

We met in college at the bagel shop on campus. We both went there between classes every morning. She ordered the same thing every. single. day. Asiago bagel, toasted with garden veggie cream cheese. BTW, my favorite was the same with a cheddar bagel…enough about food.
The weirdest thing we have done when she called me from a public restroom…and I answered from a public restroom. TMI? Nah. Not sure that qualifies for something we do on a regular basis though.
Nicknames… She calls me Shanders and I call her Nat Face (her name is Natalie). We are the type of best friends that can read each others minds. It is the BEST!

My BFF’s name is Jenny. We met senior year and have been friends since (10+ years). We like to have road trip chair dance parties. We do have nicknames for each other but i can’t post them because…well…they’re wildly inappropriate. ;)

BYOF ME! My BFF and I bonded because we share the same, weird sense of humor. Nothing like being able to crack each other up with a look across the room because we know we’re thinking the same thing.
Elisa says
BYOF me! My BFF is my husband and we met over Simpsons Trivia. We’ve taken many IKEA trips together since we got married, including when we both worked for a charity. We used to supply a lot of our clients’ apartments with IKEA household stuff. :-)
Gigi says
BYOF ME! I met my best friend the very first day of college too many years ago to count. She knows way too much about me, and vice versa. We always joke that we’ll have to go out “Thelma and Louise”-style together so that no one is alive to tell. We call each other by the Russian versions of our names and always pick a foreign language to (pretend to) speak in stores.

BYOF ME!!!
My BFF and I met working together in a restaurant like 10 year ago! She is the sweetest person I know and she actually has an IKEA addiction!
Heidi P. says
BYOF ME! My best friend is a 4’11” genius (literally) redhead. We were on the same dorm floor freshmen year and our rooms were both right across from the bathrooms. And almost every single time one of us were in there (the whole bathroom area…), the other would randomly walk in. Random times of the day or night. It’s been almost 11 yrs since then! These days we keep in touch through calls and skype. But when we are together, we make a point of getting Thai food. :)

I have lots of besties, but for the sake of this comment, I’ll pick one – my bestie and I met five years ago when I started my current job. I e-mailed her and several other young ladies and asked who would be interested in training for a half marathon with me and she was the only taker. We became fast friends, running partners, and now moms-to-be!

BYOF ME! My BFF is the wife of my husband’s BFF. While they talk hunting we talk decor. It’s a win, win!

My BFF and I met the standard way: realizing at a high school party in 1998 that we both LOVE Backstreet Boys dance parties. Can’t shake a solid foundation like that.
Because I want it thaaaaat way.

I met my BFF when my husband and I joined a small group Bible Study. She is like a mom to me and a grandma to my kids while still being my very best friend. How is that even possible? I have no idea. We laugh our heads off. We talk about everything and always in the same conversation because we can’t stay focused and we live life together.
The very best.

My Bff’s are fantastic girls – I just love ’em! One I met in my first year of university (she lived across the hall from me and we bonded over both dating Kevins at the time – though neither of us ended up marrying a Kevin) and the other is as addicted to DIY as I am, but far craftier and creative that I will ever be.

I met my best friend on the first day of high school. Every year we celebrate our anniversary by going out to a fancy dinner together and as of this year we will have been friends for half of our lives so we are going to throw a big party and take engagement shoot style photos for the invites! Silly yes but why not celebrate that?!

My BFF is my little sister who is only 15 months younger than I am. We were in the same grade all through school, and while we definitely had our rough years, we have been best friends most of the time. We have lived in different states for the last 3 years so just being together is our favorite thing :)

My best friend and I have been besties since before we both can remember. Buddies since diaper days. Our families call us “the twins” because we grew up so close and did everything together. She means more to me than anything, really.

BYOF Me!! My BFF and I met in high school at our church. She was a grade above me and we went to different high schools, but that didn’t seem to matter. I’m actually waiting on my hubby to get home so we go visit her in the hospital – she just had baby #2 this morning! :)
Rachel says
BYOF me! Is it silly to say that my fiance is my best friend? He definitely is, and our “thing” is speaking in really funny voices when we’re together. Unfortunately sometimes I forget and do it when we’re together in public or with other friends, and am immediately mortified.
