And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!
If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.
- PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
- ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

BYOF me!!!
My bff and I met in college through our sorority. Our bigs were best friends and so we hung out a lot as a group & then the following year ended up living together in our sorority house. I won’t even go into our weirdest things, but when my husband gives me a weird, confused look like “Wtf are you doing?!” 90% of the time I can respond with: “I wish she was here right now, she would totally understand” hahaha

I don`t know if I have one best friend anymore but I do have a group of close girlfriends that are the greatest, drop everything-and-come-running-when-you-need-them types. We are heading to NYC this month for a girl’s weekend! And 20 years after college I am still good friends with my old roommates. We all live in different states and are busy with families but when we talk we turn back into giggling 19 year-olds as if no time has passed.

I met my BFF my second year of college watching The Office. We slowly started watching pretty much every single tv show together, and now we’ve been to San Diego Comic-Con twice. Without her I’d never had the two best trips of my life :)

My best friend is my husband–sappy but true. And we met on a blind date! I owe it all to public education; we’re both teachers and were set up by colleagues. My friend Michele, who never met my now-husband, plotted with her sister-in-law, Michelle #2, who had never met me… they set us up because we were ‘nice’ and ‘liked to do things.’ HA. It worked out quite well, and now I get to go home to my best friend each and every day. We share stories about our crazy students and love to go to yard sales! :)

Met my best friend as a freshman in high school. We still share inside jokes (that make other friends crazy). We consider a good day spent in pajamas watching old Scrubs reruns. Our lives are totally different these days but we still make time to see one another. Here’s to hoping our kids will be besties, too.

My bff and I met at a dinner party about 8 years ago. We were both a little weary of each other but somehow became best friends. I can’t imagine my life without her. We bond over Ikea actually! And lounging on the couch and eating good food and drinking good wine. Aw I’m all sentimental now.

BONUS QUESTION: …My best friend Ana and have been together for 14 years.. i say been together.. because our husbands think we love each other a little too much and so we remind them that we have BEEN together longer than we have been with them. (insert side eyes and eyerolls here) We great each other by saying the following phrase everytime: Her: Hi Friend Me: Hi Homie Old Pal. Or favorite thing to do with each other is to just BE together uninterrupted… she has 3 kids.. I have 1 toddler so even if its in the supermarket and we can speak freely.. its a great time! She and I loves us some IKEA.. so yeah. This would be amazin!

BYOF ME! My best friend and I met 13 years ago in college through student government . We were mortal enemies initially. One day she suggested we go to lunch and try to sort out our differences. After we ate, she said she was tired so I suggested that she just ease the car seat back and take a nap. We slept in the parking lot for 2 hours! She is still into world domination and overachieving but when she needs to rest she usually ends up in my bed. Her son usually comes along for those sleeping sessions & he bombards me with his future plans for world domination.
