And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!
If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.
- PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
- ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

BYOF ME! My best friend and I met in 10th grade Chemistry class. We’ve been best friends for 13 years now and I’m so thankful for her in my life. We do a lot of weird things together. It all started by pretending to play ‘cashier’ on our calculators in that class. I have no idea why this was funny, but it’s still hilarious today. We love to just hang out and talk as much as we can now. Love her :)

My BFF and I met in college. We have been friends for 15 years!!!!! We can do anything together, we just truly enjoy one another’s company! We don’t have any weird hand shakes but we can have a whole conversation with just facial expressions from across the room! We could both definitely use an Ikea gift card because we are now both creating big boy/girl rooms for our three year olds!

My best friend and I have been best friends for 18 years, and we are only 20 years old so you can imagine how close we are! We met because our older sisters are best friends. She’s the only person in the world who truly knows who I am and loves me anyway. We do everything together, went to sleep away camp together, played competitive soccer together and go to the same university. We also both love YHL, in fact she introduced me to you guys!
we also enjoy wasting our weekends in ikea… haha we are those creepy people who just walk around for hours.

I don’t have only one BFF! I have several that I met throughout life and became ‘best friends!’ If I remarried, It’d be hard to choose a maid of honor! My most recent best friends I made is two ladies that went through divorces the same year I went through and we just connected. We support eachother, our kids play together, their ex and my ex are friends. LOL I’d love to treat them to IKEA cards each!

My bff is my husband. We met 31 years ago. His mother was the pay officer where I worked and she set us up! We do have nicknames for each other, but I can’t tell you what they are! The weirdest thing we love doing together is walking around empty parking lots, with our heads down, looking for money.

BYOF Me! I met both of my BFF on my freshman hall in college. They were roommates with each other, and didn’t really hit it off, but I became close with both of them!

My BFF is my little sis. It hasn’t always been the case, but now that we are both adults our large age difference has become less of an issue. It’s hard to want to hang out with your sister and watch Barney when you could be going to the mall with friends ;) We have no secret handshake or nicknames out side of normal ones but we have plenty of inside jokes that still give us the giggles.

I met [one of] my best friends at work of all places! We’ve been best-buds for 3 years (it feels like we’ve know each other since birth). We LOVE going to amusement parks together however we both hate all the “scary” rides. Instead we go on all the kiddie rides and end up genuinely screaming and laughing our heads off – yeah we’re “those” crazy people. We don’t have a special handshake – yet.

My bff and I didn’t realize we were bff’s until recently…she’s my sister-in-law. After she admitted that she always wants to call to update me on everything exciting/sad/overwhelming/(insert any emotion) in her life, I realized we were more than related, we were best friends. Thanks bro, for marrying a good one! :)
Chelsea Wilson says
BYOF me! I met one of my BFFs in college when I was her ‘boss’ at a museum on campus where I worked as the tour coordinator and she volunteered as a tour guide. She was intimidated by me at first b/c she thought I was a grad student or full-time employee, but I was merely a work-study who was only 2 years older than she is. Nearly 10 years later, we’re stil the best of buds!

There are four of us and we affectionately call ourselves the Ya-Ya’s. We’ve been friends since the 5th grade…26 years. We grew up with two of us living on the north side of RIC, Atlee and Ashland respectively, with the other two living in Midlothian and Brandermill. Our parents couldn’t wait until we got our drivers licenses so they no longer had to shuttle across town! We’d all probably be rich with all the tolls we spent over the years! Each of us lives in a different state now but we keep in contact via, texts, emails, fb and phone calls and the girls trip every couple of years. they are my besties. my sisters. my ya-ya’s.
