Fab Freebie: Bestå Friends

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!

If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.

IKEA BYOF Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

BYOF ME! My best friend and I met in college, but it wasn’t after we graduated that we became super close. Now that I’m married and have a baby, she comes over once a week for dinner to catch up and watch our little guy grow up :)

My BFF is someone I met by chance online when she asked me to sew a special outfit for her daughter (for payment, of course- I don’t make things for random strangers). We quickly found out that we have tons in common. Even though we live really far apart, we try to get together as much as possible. Vacations at Disney World or NYC are our favorites.

BYOF ME! We actually don’t remember exactly how we met though we know it was sometime during freshman year of college. And that was 18 years ago! Wow, getting old over here! We are both craftaholics and tend to do fun stuff like make mini-books or mat & frame pics when we get together.

My BFF and I met our sophomore year of college. We do weird things that no one else in our group of friends will participate in but that we find hilarious, like dressing up in completely unsexy costumes for Halloween when everyone else is in lingerie.

My wife is definitely my best friend, and always will be. We went to the same grade school(had 2nd, 5th and 6th grade classes together), and then finally became friends and started dating at the end of high-school. Got jobs (multiple) together, got married, moved away to go to college together, bought a house together, and now are finally (after 12 years of marriage) raising a son together. Not to get all Jerry McGuire or whatnot, but…she completes me. We have always had nicknames for each other, which are always changing, and in college even developed a special sign language of our own. Living is wonderful when you have a best friend for life.

My love and I met on a trashy little gay social media app known as Grindr. Fortunately, our interests–or at least mine at that particular moment–were far more chaste. We met for dinner about a week after first chatting. It’s been five months now.

BYOF ME! My bestie is my brother – we met at St. Mary’s hospital the day that Chernobyl melted down and exploded (just a coincidence I’m sure) and I haven’t been able to get rid of him since. Once we started watching this show called the Ultimate Fighter just for fun every week and now he works for the UFC and is training in brazillian jiu-jitsu and muay thai.

We aren’t too strange, but I always end up giving her socks as gifts and she gives me fancy hot cocoa. It works for us! We just went shopping at Ikea together, so this would be PERFECT!

I met my best fried in law school. His laptop screensaver was images of different bands, and one of my favorite bands, the Black Keys, popped up. So the next day I wore my Black Key’s t-shirt. He said “oh, you like the Black Keys? me too.” I innocently said yes… and a friendship was born.

My best friend and I met in 2nd grade…my nickname for her is Swade. In college we roomed together (and didn’t end up hating each other..holla!) We started this thing when we were younger where we will randomly write each other notes or send texts like, “You’re the zipper to my jacket!” For Christmas one year I got us matching necklaces…mine says “AM” and hers says “PM.” So dorky I know but we love it!
