Fab Freebie: Bestå Friends

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!

If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.

IKEA BYOF Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

I met my best friend in high school, and we roomed together in college. She knows how weird I am, and how cranky I am in the morning, and how I hate to share my popcorn, and she’s still my friend.

My best friend and I have been partners in crime since we were 2 years old. Her mom worked at the local grocery store where my mom shopped and they bonded over the fact that we share the same name (Carlee and Karlee). Here we are at 25 and still going strong!

We met on my 13th birthday (in class in 7th grade), and I had just moved there (so I was the lonely new kid, haha). She’s a passionate DIY-er and Blogger these days, so she’s the perfect friend to share these with!

BYOF ME! My BFF actually used to be a work-friend of my husband’s. But she found out from him that I liked some of the same music she did and that I knew how to knit and she wanted to learn to knit….and we’ve been best friends for the last 7+ years. We don’t have a secret language or anything, but we do have a lot of shorthand and in-jokes. <3

My best friend, Brooke, and I became good friends about 6 or 7 years ago… we started hanging out because our husbands were good friends, and it’s just blossomed from there. We do zumba together twice a week, so she sees me looking my most ridiculous and loves me anyway. We have similar personalities and love to do a lot of the same things, such as sit around watching movies while eating cookie dough brownies… mmmm…

…my best friend and I met in first grade over a batch of pink, homemade play-dough. We had many of the same interests growing up and even roomed together in college, but other people would wonder how we were such close friends since our personalities differed so greatly. I say that’s precisely why we were such a dynamic duo – we complemented each other.

I met my bff about (oh, gawd) 25 years ago in junior high… we don’t have special nicknames, but we do have a (highly annoying, at least according to my hubs) tendency to devolve into a sort of twin-speak, and we both know why the other won’t be running for public office if you know what I mean. Even this many years later, we see each other at least weekly and live 4 blocks apart. Love that girl.

Do sisters count as besties? If they do, we met in the usual way, but we have not always been friends. But now that are and we’re scattered all over, we do have fun traditions like a sister only trip, ornament exchange at Christmas, and a sign off on emails that we only use with one another. Love those ladies! (That’s you, Margs, Sara, and Ro!)

We have been through our fair share of nicknames for each other and given to us by others, but the ones that have stuck are Bo (me) and Phant (her). We used to work at the same place in high school so we were given the names L1 (me) and L2 (her). A lot of people still call us L1 and L2 when we are together. She is the best of best friends :)!

I met my best friend in first grade. She was assigned to show me around the school and we ended up going to the same church. We lost touch briefly between high school and college but ended up meeting back up one night the summer before I met my husband. She was my MOH and I was hers. She is an amazing, sweet, caring and crazy person who brings out my crazy side (which is well hidden). She’s the best and I am so lucky to have her as a best friend :)
