And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!
If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.
- PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
- ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

My bestie and I met when I was 2 and she was the ripe old age of 1! Whenever we get together we are completely goofy and act like kids again. We were also the maid of honor in eachother’s weddings. :)

BYOF ME!!! My hubby is my bff ;) we met. 6 years ago when my mom “knowingly” invited he and his parents to my dads bday lunch after church so that we would have to meet and talk… We have various nicknames for each other ranging from the too embarrassing to inappropriate ,hehe. We love to go estate sales on our day off together. But yeah, bff 4 life :)

Byof me! My best friend decided that we were going to be best friends before he really even knew me. He worked hard to get into my inner circle! But, now he really is my best friend and a potentially creepy situation worked out for the best! :)

BYOF me. I met my BFF working together in a not so happy ad agency. Our shared passion for the work we were doing made every day worth it and insulated us from the unhappy. Bonus for me, she’s an amazing designer!
Erica says
BYOF ME! I met my best friend when I was in HS and I was dating a friend of hers. We did not seem to like either very much. Three years after HS she was dating that boy. I was at a bar with my friends and she was walking up to join us and I said to my friend oh no she doesn’t like me I used to date her boyfriend and I dumped him in a not so nice way. Turns out we loved each other and have been best friends ever since. The boy is long out of the picture but we will always be grateful because in a small way he brought us together. We don’t have a special handshake, but we have plenty of songs that we hear and think of our friendship. We became friends twenty years ago.

My BFF and I have been a pair since 7th grade when we were both awkward and nerdy and in need of a soul mate. I don’t get to see her as often as I’d like, but when we do get together, it’s like we were never apart.

Growing up, I had a great group of girl friends that I am still super close with. However, since getting married, I am super close with my sister-in-laws. It is so nice to hang out with them and I am one lucky girl to not only call them sisters but my best friends! They introduced me to IKEA and I’m now obsessed…It would be awesome to share this prize with them!

My bestie is my hubby. We can’t get enough of each other! We met 11 years ago in college. He calls me Pretty Face and I call him Stinky. The weirdest thing we love doing together may not be so weird but we love taking walks around nice neighborhoods, picking out the houses we like the most and talking about them being ours. It’s fun!

BYOF ME!!
My best friend Erin and I met when we were 5 years old at the bus stop. 23 years later, we are still inseparable (she is a bridesmaid in my wedding this Sept). We don’t have a secret handshake, but we do have a weird greeting that we made in elementary school: One of us says “Batta Boom,” and the other replies “Batta Bing.” It’s our way of saying hi/goodbye to this day.
Jenny Reid says
BYOF ME! My best friend is Molly Brett – aka “Bretters”. We met 8 years ago in college through our church. We were both experiencing roommate drama and our pastor connected us. We’ve been best friends ever since! Our “first date” was to Taco Bell and while we both lived in the same town, we returned annually to celebrate our friendship. Our nicknames were “Brenny and the Jetts” – we even made matching tshirts! Now, years later, married and with kids, and living states apart, our favorite “thing” to do is talk on the phone and encourage each other in this great adventure of life, parenting, and marriage.

BYOF Me!
I met my bff(s) when I joined a local knitting group in an effort to make new friends in my late 20’s. I’ve since gone on to try new foods with these women, take up whitewater kayaking, and weekend roadtrips. Whenever I hesitate to try something out of my comfort zone, I remember the day I finally worked up the courage to go to my first meet-up. Love those girls!

I met my bff in college almost 10 years ago when we were RAs together. Probably the most ridiculous thing we do whenever we get together is all of our terrible dancing– we have highly “choreographed” routines to Hey Ya, Jump for my Love (a’la Love Actually) and many others.

We have been besties since middle school. We went through “the awkward stage” together. (most days, I think we never left).

BYOF me! I have two really close girlfriends, more like sisters really. One has been married and moved away from Texas, and the other has lived in South Carolina for our entire friendship (I live in Michigan). But despite the distance, these ladies are absolute soul-mates of mine. Once a year we’re able to get together and have a sleepover, complete with zillions of pictures, hilarious youtube videos at 3am, and dance parties. We’re over twenty years old and still that awesome ;) They are such a blessing to me <3

My BFF is my sister, so we met when my parents brought her home from the hospital :-). We’ve only been besties since we grew up and didn’t have to live in the same house any more, though! There was awhile when she decided that my nickname was Cheerio-head; fortunately that phase has passed!

BYOF Me!
I met my BFF in elementary school and we’ve stayed besties ever since. We’ve spent most of our friendship being long-distance friends and for the last 4 years in particular she’s lived in another state altogether. She just recently moved “back home” and is currently in the process of buying a house only 2 miles down the road from me so our favorite thing to do, currently, is dream up all of the exciting “neighborly” things we can do together!
