Fab Freebie: Bestå Friends

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!

If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.

IKEA BYOF Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

My BFF is Angela. We met in the beginning of 9th grade and bonded over food (we both love to cook),boys and heartbreak. That was 18 years ago! We vowed as teenagers to watch all the amityville horror movies and made it through three before we had nightmares! Even though we are long distance now we still talk every morning that I work and she keeps me awake on my drive home.

my sister is my best friend. i suppose we met when my mom brought her home from the hospital. we shared a room growing up, so of course we were best friends and enemies for a lot of our childhood. but now that we live apart, it has just left us with the best friend part : )

I met my BFF on the first day of 7th grade. I had just moved to town and we bonded over our dorkiness (and braces). Here we are 17 years later and we’re still kinda dorky! Thanks for the chance to win.

heck yeah–I got a couple best besties! the Abbster is my favoritest girlfriend and the toby-mon is my favorite boyfriend! we met at ballet in 8th grade and at a bar in college, respectively.

abby and I have the weirdest, erm, “handshake.” as I said, we met in ballet, so we liked to (rather meanly) make fun of a few purgers. so we have puke buttons. so, yeah, it’s weird but it always makes me laugh. :) ps–we <3 ikea trips together so that's totally an apropos giveaway!

We met at work, and bonded over realizing that we went to college together; and moreso realized I had drawn/sculpted her fiancee as a ‘life model’ in art class…….the fiancee didnt last but the friendship has.

My BFF lived two doors down from me for 9 years when I was little and we did everything together. Sticker clubs, stuffed animal clubs, all the nerdy stuff 8-10 year-old girls do. When I moved away (only 15 miles) we were pen pals and kept in touch that way (though a phone would have been sufficient). Now, 27 years later we are still best friends and though we don’t speak all the time we have made an effort to visit one another across the country. It usually ends up being for big life events like the birth of a child or a wedding, but it’s always fun to be together and we can pick up right where we left off. Isn’t that what BFFs are all about?

BYOF ME! My best friend is also my cousin, Jessica. As legend goes, shortly after I was born she scooted over her one-year-old booty to where I was lying on the floor and proceeded to stick her finger up my nose. I laughed, she laughed, and we’ve been getting into golf cart crashes ever since!

BYOF ME! I looove ikea and I love my best friend! We both are buying our first houses within a month of each other, and we’d love to win some swag to decorate with! We’ve been friends since middle school when we started calling each other by our last names because we’re both named Lauren, and I’ve considered her my BFF since college. I’m now pregnant with my first baby and she wants to come stay and help and throw me a shower – more than any family has done. She is fantastic and this would be a huge blessing to both of us!

My best friend and I didn’t have a choice in building our friendship. Our parents were besties themselves (and still are) almost 28 years ago now they met as newlyweds in a tiny little apartment complex in our hometown. My bestie now lives over seas with her husband in Germany and we love to Skype and talk about what girls talk about best… clothes, shoes, needing to exercise and of course funny husband moments. :) We call ourselves ‘ITB’ friends, which stands for ‘in the belly’ ;)

BYOF Me! I met my best friend back in High School. We actually knew eachother since jr. high, but didn’t become friends until my 16th birthday when another friend had made plans with us both and instead of canceling with one of us, we all went out together. From that day forward we were BFFs. That’s almost 25 years ago!

BYOF ME! My closest “friend” is my boyfriend, but my girl bestie is actually one of my roommates. Long before we were friends in middle school and high school, she and I met on the youth soccer field…playing against each other. She always played defense, I tended to play offense. Our competitive history didn’t stand in the way of our friendship — almost 15 years later, we’re still buds!

My BFF4EaE (for ever and ever- reverting back to grade school) and I met our freshmen year of college on Bid Day. We joined the same sorority and instantly became friends. This was nine years ago and I’m fortunate she only lives an hour away now and we see each other all the time. We don’t really have nicknames for each other, just A LOT of inside jokes and stories. She knows me better than anyone.
