And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!
If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.
- PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
- ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

BYOF ME!!! My best friend and I met in our sophmore year of high school and from the day we met we just clicked. We did everything together, even changing into our bathing suits on the NYC train out to Rockaway Beach when we would play hookey from school! We were a pair ready to take on the world and always there for each other. Unfortunately she passed away from cancer 3 years ago this month. I had moved 1600 miles away from home years before but we still saw each other very often and I went back to care for her and spend time with her before she passed, a large part of me went with her and now my other best friend, my hubby is in a fight for his life with cancer too.

My BFF is my sister. I met her shortly after she entered the world. The best friend thing was not always the case. It started when we became mothers. We’ve got inside jokes out the wazoo. Her nickname is Virgilian Super Freak. Said with the utmost love and respect, of course. No handshakes to speak of. Just crazy giant sister hugs.

I have two besties. One I met when I was 19 and interning at a comic book company, and the other I met through the Renaissance Faire when I was about 24. They are both awesome and we all have (and love) lots of Ikea, so shopping together there would be lots of fun.

[I am getting the duplicate comment, but I find it hard to believe anyone else has friends met exactly the same way, so must be a computer glitch!]

I have two best friends of 16 years now – they’re sisters, and I’m the lucky third “sister”. We met at stable camp, where we mucked stalls, shampooed horse tails and frequently fell off our steeds (which is not the big deal it’s cracked up to be, at least not when you’re ten, made of rubber and just found life-long friends!).

BYOF ME! I have had the same best friend for 30 years, for Christmas and birthdays, there is always a competition between us to see who can find the ugliest gift at a goodwill store.

My BFF is my boyfriend, Bob. We met at work. He’s the kind of guy that everyone likes. Our cubicles were next to each other and I could hear him talk on conference calls, always kind and polite…even after he hung up the phone – no snarky comments, ever. We became friends when he offered to help me with projects around the house and we’ve been together and DIYing it ever since!

BYOF ME! I met my bf freshman year of college at a mutual friend’s birthday dinner. She pretended there was something in her food in an attempt to catch the waiter’s attention so we could get “Happy Birthday” going. I may have thought she was a little odd that day, but we’ve been inseparable ever since :)

I hope you will pick me and my friend Jody. She is my rock. I was in an abusive marriage and she kept me going until U was strong enough to leave…she gave me the nick name Cindy Lou… Said it came from the Grimch story because when all was at its worst Cindy Lou went down to the center of town and brought everybody together in song and kept there spirits strong. When things were at there worst for me she would say”keep on singing Cindy Lou”. I would take a deep breath and do just that. She is also a great Mom to an adopted daughter and an aIng photographer. Getting a gift card would be a small way to show her how much her support truly meant to me. Michelle aka. Cindy Lou

My bestie and I met when her boss asked me to “stand in” for her on a commercial shoot bc she had to be out of town…we then realized how much we looked alike! Almost 10 years later…we are still the BEST of friends. We compliment each other so well…she is my fitness guru and pushes me to get my butt up and RUN. I am her decorating/DIY fairy and encourage her to stick with her projects….sometimes it takes several tries to get it right! Winning would be an AWESOME treat for both of us!

BYOF ME! I met my BFF in college. My husband (boyfriend at the time) had met her at a campus function and thought we’d hit it off. She was in my 8am class and introduced herself, but I hate mornings so she thought I hated her. It was about 6 months before we met at a reasonable hour and we were able to talk and then boom.

My best friend is named Beccca, and we met in 8th grade during high school dance team tryouts.
We call each other HRA for “Hard Rocking Amigo”–a term used in Tenacious D’s song, “Tribute” haha.
Weirdest thing: at a dance camp we, along with a couple other friends, scaled a university pool fence and jumped into the pool. We narrowly escaped being sent home from camp.
10 years have gone by and we are still best friends–she was even a bridesmaid in my wedding. :)
