And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!
If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.
- PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
- ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

BYOF ME! My BFF and I met when I was in 4th grade and she walked into my Sunday School class at church, having just moved to town. She had long hair and bangs and a plaid dress with those GIANT white lace-trimmed collars we wore when we wanted to feel Amish and good-girl-ish. She sat next to me, and we’ve been BFFs ever since. In recent years, we’ve had rough times as our lives have gone in different directions, but we talked through it and are able to maintain our sisterhood. 5.5 years ago, she had an accident at her summer job in a machine shop and was nearly killed. Her faith and hope through her still-ongoing recovery have been a model to me and many, and I am so grateful she is still here to share HGTV and DQ Blizzards with whenever we get together!

Monica says
BYOF ME!! I probably met my bestie when we were elementary age but we became best friends while in middle school. She has always been my rock to lean on. We’ve been roommates, she’s been my maid of honor, and we’ve been there for the births of our children. Almost 25 years later and two hours apart, we are still there for each other.

BYOF ME! I met my lobster (see Friends episode 2.14) 11 years ago. I thought her name was Tabitha and introduced her as such for several days; not her name — not even close. We’ve been there for each other through several moves, lost babies, growing (and challenging) kids, husbands who work a lot, house renos, job changes and the ins and outs of every day. Couldn’t live my life without her.

BYOF ME! My best friend and I met in the 7th grade. We lived together in college and quite nearly killed each other. I moved out so we could still be friends. And…. years later she is still my best friend. I just wish we lived much closer.

BYOF me! I met my best friend in Pre-Calc in 11th grade. We wound up being roommates freshman year of college, and that year was basically a nonstop laughfest—she is hands-down the funniest person I know.

BYOF ME! My bestie and I met in college – we both gave campus tours! She also knew my then-boyfriend/now-husband separately from their aerospace engineering classes and thought it was really fun to find out 2 of her friends from separate groups were dating each other! You know you’re good friends when you can talk about all things “eww” with pregnancy and breastfeeding… :)
Anna says
BYOF ME! My BFF and I met doing swim team in middle school and have been friends ever since (~15 years). We went to college together which luckily was right down the street from IKEA. Whenever one of us had a stressful week we’d head to IKEA together to window shop and dream of having a place that wasn’t a dorm room!

I met my best friend on the first day of 5th grade, after moving to a new town and new school. We played a get-to-know you game that required throwing a Koosh (taking this old school…) to get to know another person. I threw the Koosh to her, we played Four Square at recess, set up a get-together soon after, and have been friends ever since. Coincidentally, our moms both work in the school system, became friends themselves, and now it’s one big party.

BYOF ME! I have three best friends. One I met in kindergarten, the other we were first grade pen pals, and then the three of us became inseparable in high school. Then the third, I went to middle school and high school with but we didn’t become best friends until we went to the same college together. Now all four of us are great friends! I love all my besties and they’re going to be my three bridesmaids!

BYOF ME!
My best friend and I met in kindergarten when we were four years old, and we are going on 10 years strong! We have tried a million nicknames over the years but the ones that have stuck are just the shortening of our names (Car and E)…creative I know. We couldn’t look more different (tall, short, brunette, blond, bean poll, athletic build) but we never fail to finish each others sentences and know exactly what the other one is thinking! Don’t know what I would do without her :)
Athena Miller says
FYOF ME! All Ikea’s around us are no less than 2.5 hours away, and we’re planning a trip there for late March! Perfect! I don’t have a “BFF”, there’s a group of 6 of us gals that started hanging out in HS, and kept in touch throughout college, and we now get together (kids in tow) at least once a month. Luckily, our husbands all get along as if THEY have known each other for ages too!

BYOF ME!!
My BFF, Henry, and I met as undergrads in college and immediately hit it off. We are pretty weird people, so I don’t think there’s enough space here to list everything. We’ve been long-distance besties for two years, but this summer I’m moving MUCH closer to him, so we’ll be able to do all kind of weird things together again!

BYOF ME! I have a couple of Besties, but today I’ll honor Tobin who moved away about a year ago. We met at work about four years ago and she is one wacky girl, but a great, great friend who would do anything for you. Definitely a unique person who I am proud to call my friend. :)

BYOF ME!
My best friend and I met for the first time when we were young (my parents were baptized in her family’s pool & her sister babysat me!), then we didn’t see each other again until college. We hung out several times before we realized who each other was – now she is my best friend for LIFE :-)
