And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!
If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.
- PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
- ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

My best friend and I have been friends for 14 years. We met in middle school and have been BFF ever since! She even introduced to me to my husband! We’ve always called one another “peanut” and “marshmallow.” At this point, we can’t even remember where that came from…but the names have stuck!

BYOF Me!! My best friend is my little sister. We pretty much met the day she was born. We weren’t always best friends, but once we got into our mid-20’s we became super close. We do have weird nicknames for each other. We love to think of names that old ladies would have and laugh at them. Names like Bertha, Gertrude, or Melva. Our old lady nicknames for each other are Beverly and Beatrice. Weird, I know, but it cracks us up.

Our best friends are two sets of couples friends who we knew in college. We all have kids who are the same ages, we’re all in education, and we’re all don’t have family who lives near us. Every Sunday we get together for family dinners–all the kids and all of us. We love them, and I don’t know what we’d do without them. If we win they’d get our extra cards!

Definitely my husband :) Then my mom.
Phyllis Quast says
She lived across the street from me. I was a stay at home mom and she ran a business from home. She would craft in her garage, and so I started going over to say hi…and essentially made myself a part of her life. We’ve been friends ever since. Though I had to move away, and economics mean we don’t see each other as much as we’d like, she’s still the one that knows me best!
Kate says
BYOF ME! We’ll see who wants to be my BFF when I win these IKEA gift cards! :)

BYOF ME! I met my BFF Emily in 2nd grade… I was convinced that she had an extreme swing accident so I told everybody that she swung ALL the way around the bar and flew out of the swing and broke her legs. Later she walked up to me to find out who has been spreading these crazy rumors. We were inseparable ever since.

Honestly, my best friend is my husband. Second to him would be my friend Christy, we met each other 27 years ago when my mom started babysitting her. We’ve been through it all the good, the bad and the ripping off of mirrors through drive thru’s. It doesn’t matter how long we go without talking or seeing one another, we’re able to pick back up right where we left off.

I met my best friend in college and we shared an apartment with some other friends for a year. She lived in PA for a few years, I was in VA… and then about a year ago, I convinced her to move to Richmond when she was looking for a new job. We’re now roomies again and could definitely use some Ikea money for decorating!

My best friend and I met over 10 years ago while playing softball. Well actually we were picking flowers in the outfield. Despite never going to the same school or living near each other for an extended period of time we have been able to keep a super close friendship. We even have our own celebrity name KaBreeze. We have even started a blog together chronicling our lives on different coasts.

My bestie and I met at church six years ago. We’re like sisters and most of our church thought we actually were sisters until very recently.
Samantha says
BYOF ME! My best friend is actually my younger sister Sabrina. I have known her all her life (which is about the same as most of mine). My nickname for her is Beener which came from her nickname when she was younger (Breena). She calls me Samwise. Most of our lives we were always hatching crazy schemes, from tree houses, to adopting puppies, to redecorating our mother’s house (also known as rearranging furniture at 1:00 am).
Kristin says
BYOF ME!! My bestie is also my husband (lucky me!). We met in my classroom back in 2000 when I was teaching and he happened to be assigned my school as part of his service area. I walked into my room to find him toying with my classroom computers, and we’ve been inseparable ever since.
