Fab Freebie: Bestå Friends

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!

If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.

IKEA BYOF Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

BYOF ME! My best friend and I met my junior year of highschool and she was one year below me in her sophmore year. We used to love being in the creative writing club we started in highschool. I am now 31 and she is 29…old ladies holla! Now we love to go to Homegoods, thrift stores and flea markets (you guys need to make it to St. Louis for the Gypsy Caravan in May! Seriously Google it…it is amazing!), watch movies, talk about future baybehs! And I am also honored to be her Maid-of-Honor in her wedding next year (we are trying to sneak in as much Doctor Who references as possible without going overboard or straying from the traditional)

It’s cliche, but my hubby is my BFF. We were friends first and he was the only person who would dance like a fool with me, watch cheesy Disney movies with me (yes, even in our 20’s), and listen to me cry about my jerk ex-boyfriend. He was a great friend back then, but an even better husband now!

My BFF and I met in middle school. I was in a military family and moved around a lot, but we just “clicked.” I now live in the Pacific Northwest and she lives in Texas. I have an older sona and baby girl, and she has an older daughter and boy/girl twin todders. We have crazy lives, but we talk weekly and keep in touch with kid clothing care packages!

I have a group of girlfriends that I wouldn’t trade for the world. We met almost exactly 3 years ago working for the same company. Since then, 2 have moved cross country and 2 more have left the company (there are 6 of us) but we all talk all the time. If I go more than a few days without seeing one of their faces I can feel something is wrong in my brain. I need time with them to keep me sane. :)

BYOF me! My best and I met through our husbands while they were in the police academy together. This year will mark six years of awesome, crazy, silly times together. It will also mark the first year that we’re having a honest-to-goodness girls weekend and getting away for lots of shopping at our favorite stores, including Ikea! This will definitely become a yearly tradition.

We traveled to each others hometowns to stand up in the others persons wedding, we’ve also traveled back and forth a couple times to visit and now I’m planning a summer trip to go see her. We both have kids and they’ve never met so I’m SO Looking forward to this trip! We always talk on the phone and someday wish to love closer!

Stephen and I became besties the first time we met, which was in a job interview about 9 years ago. (My boss and I were interviewing Stephen for a job!) Somehow, during the course of the interview, the subject of Ani DiFranco came up, and all three of us were huge music buffs. Stephen mentioned that his favorite Ani CD was the live portion of Living in Clip, which is also my favorite Ani CD.

Anyway, we’ve been besties ever since, even though we no longer work for the same company and we live 5 states apart.

I have a few besties, but I was able to spend this past weekend with one who lives a couple hours away. We mostly have a ridiculous number of inside jokes, endless conversations about Pretty Little Liars, and very random dance parties. We’ve known each other for 8 years now (dannnnng!) And we both furnish our apartments in swedish wares :)

BYOF Me! My best friend and I met in college – we had an advertising class together, and on the first day she didn’t like me because I knew everyone and was super outgoing (thank you, sorority life) and I didn’t like her because she was…gasp!…dating a football player! We got over that immediately and have been friends for years now. She’s married with two kids (the first of which we SWEAR is somehow mine – he is so ornery!) and lives in Des Moines – I’m engaged and getting married in April here in Los Angeles. Despite the distance, when the two of us get together, we pick right back up where we left off. I love you Cassie!!! xo
