Fab Freebie: Bestå Friends

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!

If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.

IKEA BYOF Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

BYOF! My best friend and I met in high school at freshman orientation. We were inseparable after that! We had nicknames for each other – I was Bean and she was Sprout – that only we called each other. I would love to be able to give her a $100 gift card to Ikea!

My best friend and I met in the womb- our moms were friends, due to our older sisters being about the same age. We live 500 miles apart now, but every time we are back together we pick up right where we left off. We bond over HGTV, boy trouble, and good food!

My best friend and I have known each other, literally, since birth. Our parents were best friends so we’ve never really known life without each other. When we were kids, we even had a secret language that we made up to use around strangers and people we didn’t like. Now, at 37 and 39 years old, and across many states, we’re still besties.

I met my bestie in 4th grade, I was actually so mean to her, our teacher paired us up all the time to learn to work together, and our friendship (forcefully) flourished! We are 27 now, and I am actually married to her brother, go figure! We are not only BFF’s, we are also sister-in-laws, she is the Godmother to our daughter, and I am a soon-to-be first time aunt to her growing bean :)

Our weird thing is that we frequently threaten each other through voicemail messages – I’m not sure how that started but it’s our thing! Lol

This might sound cliche but my best friend is really my husband! He is the one person I can truly just relax and be myself with! We have lots of our own “inside” jokes and he has my back all the time!

Oh, and we met at my sisters wedding! He was friends of my brother in law (the groom). He came to the wedding (with a little coercion from friends because the bride had “sisters”) and the rest is history! :)

BYOF ME! My best friend and I became close after a class trip to Gettysberg/D.C. in 8th grade, back in 2000. I suggested that the teacher play a Guess Who CD over the bus radio, which I happened to have with me, and we bonded over both liking good classic rock. Needless to say, our favorite activity is going to concerts together :).

I have two best friends. My boyfriend Doug and my girl Felida. I met them both at the Y (we all worked there) and actually Felida’s younger sister gave Doug his inside joke that led to him asking me out (three days later!)! Doug and I have been together for 5 and 1/2 years. We don’t have any secret handshakes (but lots of strange jokes). He calls me princess or junebug (my old nickname from camp). I call him silversnake (his old nickname from camp) or superman.

Felida is my girl bestie. We met at the y about a year after I met Doug and instantly became best friends. Lately, we have been all about just hanging out and relaxing. She is working and schooling and I am running my own daycare site (for the first time) so sitting around and just hanging out is a perfect stress reliever! I call her Flee and she calls me Cait…not too strange!
