Fab Freebie: Bestå Friends

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!

If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.

IKEA BYOF Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

    BYOF me!

My BFF and I met in high school, where we competed in speech events, and then met again in college, where we had similar majors and shared classes. Since we’re both from incredibly small towns, we took the second meeting as a sign and have been near-inseparable ever since. Last year, she moved to the West Coast and I’m still in OK, so thank goodness for the Internet!

I love that we are so engrained in each other’s lives and memories, since we don’t exactly hang out every day anymore (more like monthly). We still never miss the big stuff!

I met my best friend in 7th grade so we’ve been friends for 21 years. We became mothers within a year or so of each other, and moms to two within months. Some common topics of conversation: motherhood, marriage, and our love of Downton Abbey, Etsy, and washi tape.

My FF lives in Richmond, VA (believe it or not). We’ve known each other since high school. Back then we talked about what we’d wear to school the next day and how to decorate our rooms. Turns out, some things never change! And yes, she did get me a signed copy of your book and the R Home magazine for Christmas. That’s true bff love :)

    BYOF ME!!

I met my bestfriend in Kindergarten. I remember spending the night with her (probably 3rd Grade) and we were practicing cheers in her front yard and waving and acting foolish as cars would pass. One car went up the road, slammed on its breaks and turned around. We were so scared!! I ran behind the house (thinking she ran there, too) and unknown to me, she had ran inside. When her mom reunited us we were both crying thinking that the car had kidnapped the other one of us. To this day we talk about almost getting kidnapped together. We laugh now,(we are both in our 30’s) but I think it still scares us a little.

Oh yeah, and I married her cousin. So, friends for life and part of the family! ;)

My best friend is my husband! We met online (weird right?). I call him Goober, b/c he’s funny, cute, and charming, and it just seemed “fitting” and he calls me Doll.

Our weird thing is we’ll say “I love you around the Butt!” (This came from when we were driving somewhere and my husband explained this, “Imagine your start point is your belly button, and you’re trying to get to your belly button. Instead of just picking up your finger, and putting it back down, and arriving at your destination, you went all the way around your torso, and your butt to get back to your bellybutton. So now the short version, is “I love you around the butt” (which means more love)… confusing?? Yes… but the perfect inside joke.

Tracy & I met my sophomore year of college. We had a mutual friend who kept talking about us to the other one, saying that we needed to meet. When we finally did, within the 1st 5 minutes, I had told Jeff, our mutual friend, that I was pregnant with her love child, and she totally rolled with it. Besties ever since.

I’ve known my best friend since we started Daisy girl scouts at age 5. She’s a wanderer, but no matter where she’s living in the world, I can call her up and we don’t miss a beat in conversation. We’re quite opposite in many ways, but it works–like a yin and yang type-deal.

I met my best friend on the first day of junior high. Our moms had met earlier and thought that we’d hit it off, so they gave each of us a note with the other one’s name and told us to look for each other. They were right. That was almost 20 years ago (yikes!), and she’s still like a sister to me.
