Fab Freebie: Bestå Friends

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!

If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.

IKEA BYOF Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

My best friend and I have the same name! Katie B.! We like to refer to each other as evil Katie B. vs good Katie B. and then switch it up depending on the day. We met in college and have been friends for 11 years!

    BYOF ME!!!

I met my best friend (and boyfriend) on the first day of high school at the lunch table. We had crushes for a few years and finally started dating almost 3 years later. We’ve been together 6 years now and still going strong! This IKEA gift card would be great– we are living in our first apartment together and I’m craving some new furniture/accessories to really make it ours.

I’m so lucky in that I have several friends I consider ‘bffs’ – a couple of them are from middle school and we are still tight to this day and have ridiculous nick names for each other – a few others I met later in life and we are open books with one another. There really isn’t anything better :)

My best friend and I were high school classmates, but we didn’t really hang out until we ended up going to the same college. She lives in Boston now, but when she visits our hometown, where I still live, we love to go “creek stomping” together! I live in Iowa, where there are fields and field streams aplenty, so we just pick one, throw on some flip flops, and walk (in the water) as far along the stream as we can.

I’ve got a couple of besties… We have known each other since middle school and high school. Others in our group have referred to us at Elite because if one of the 3 of us is doing something, you can count on at least one more to be there too. It works because we are all “drop of the hat” gals. As in, “want to go to a movie tonight? It starts in 10 minutes” Let’s go!

My BFF is actually my husband. We met when we were 16 on a school trip (we went to different schools, but they shared a bus). The thing that we do that gets us weird stares is that we tend to intermix quotes from our favorite tv shows and movies into our conversations, which we find hilarious. Alas, if we do it in front of others and they have not seen all the same tv shows and movies, they tend to look at us like we are insane. Oh well. We think we’re funny.

My BFF also happens to be my cousin. Even though we were raised in seperate states (Wa & Nd) we were raised with similar values, work ethics, etc. Before email bcame too popluar, in Jr High we wrote letters to each other for years. I still have every letter and picture and silly little gift she sent me. As adults, she lives in Australia and I am still in Seattle. Thank God for Skype and email to keep us and our families connected over the miles. Even though we have lived miles apart our hearts are very close. In fact, she is flying here in May with her 9 mo old son to be here “hopefully” for the birth of my first son. What a friend to fly half way around the world! Hre name is Jill and I call her my Jillie-Bean. I feel so lucky to have the friendship/sisterhood I do with her, not everyone gets to experience the bond that we have. Thanks for offering the giveaway!I’ve got my eye on a floor lamp at Ikea that would be so perfect in the nursery! :)

I’ve known my best friend since freshman year of high school when our previous bffs decided that they wanted to sit together in class one day. So I wound up sitting with my new bff and we’ve since enjoyed a 17 year best friendship. Longer than the best friends that ditched us by about 16.5 years…haha.

She also reads YHL, in fact she was the one that got me hooked…so you may see this story a couple of times. haha.
