Fab Freebie: Bestå Friends

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!

If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.

IKEA BYOF Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

BYOF Me! Honestly, my BFF is my wife. I met her through my youngest brother who was dating my wife’s friend at the time. We’ve been together 16 years and married for 11. We grow closer each day and I just love my BFF.

My BFF is Candace Turer, formerly known as Candace Nunnemaker before she married her awesome husband! We’ve known each other since we were 7, when my parents moved in next door to her family. So that means we’ve been besties for 19 years!!!!! Oh my gosh!!!

When we were little we used to call each other “babe” using a surfer dude’s accent. Then we started calling each other “dude” and still do sometimes. We used to do the Ren & Stimpy handshake in our front yard for the whole wide world to see until we realized bending over and bumping our butts together was not cool…
Candace had a tree house in her backyard and we had a secret password so our sisters couldn’t ever join us. The password changed a lot but our favorite one was “Pocahontas”.

We went to elementary through highschool together and I could write a novel about all the silly things, games, adventures and scary stories we’ve lived out together!

This summer she’s going to be my maid of honor in my wedding! <3

    Besties are the best.

We met in Junior high when the city kids and country kids started going to school together at a bigger school. We are both big Anne of Green gables fans, so we always end our letters, cards and emails with “Kindred Spirits Forever”. We have been doing this for almost 30 years, since we met.

My BFF, Lindsay, and I met in 3rd grade. Now our parents are best friends, our families vacation together every summer, she’s a doctor in Asheville, NC while I’m in Raleigh. Most random thing we did growing up was tip the pizza delivery guys with Snickers bars and any other foods we could scrounge up since we didn’t have enough money for tip. :)

I met by bestie 9 years ago in Freshman english. Ever since we have been Bffs for life. After High School he moved to California but that didn’t stop our bestie relationship. We manage to talk about 3 times a week and we see each other maybe once a year if we are lucky. We actually dated for 2 years but realized at the end we are better as friends. A week of silence and then we were back to being BFFs. We both have significant others now and we still have our every other day chats. We tell each other everything and have a sixth sense for when we need each other. We are going to be BFFs Fo life.

BYOF ME… My best friend and I met in 8th grade and bonded over a mutual love of theatre and dark, awful, puberty fueled poetry. Alas, we are still theatre nerds but have left the bad writing where it belongs, in the attic. Now we both live in our home town and now our home town has an ikea! We heart this giveaway.

My sister is my BFF, we met when I was born…she is two years older than me (i’m 24 now and she is 26). We have pretty much always been best friends (minus a little sister rivalry when I was in 7th grade and she was a “cool highschooler”). We moved around a lot when we were little so we had to stick together! The weirdest thing we love doing isn’t really something I predict us “doing” I guess, but it’s when we’re out in public and people watching and have this weird connection when we know we’re thinking the same thing, but it would be SO inappropriate to laugh out loud, so we start doing that uncontrollable silent laugh and tears start coming down. A lot of times we laugh so hard my cheeks hurt…and then I realize it really wasn’t even THAT funny, we just feed of each other for some reason and can’t stop laughing. And everyone around us (even other family members) think we are SO WEIRD because they don’t know what we’re laughing at. I can’t do that with anyone else…because I can’t even really explain how it happens. We also like to make weird faces at each other when we are FaceTiming (we only live 25 minutes away from each other and see each other every wknd but must “See” each other everyday on FaceTime). As far as nicknames, my name is Brett and she calls me Brettania and her name is Chelsey and i call her Cecil…no there is no rhyme or reason it all just came about one day years ago.

My best friend and I have known each other for 12 years! She is like the sister I never had. She is currently deployed in Afghanistan with the Army and I miss not being able to talk to her as much as I would like. Aside from my mom and my husband, shes the only person I can talk to. Her son is staying with me till the end of the year. It’s a lot of responsibility but I know she would do the same for me. Although we haven’t seen each other in person much in the last 3 years, I know we can maintain our friendship for many more years to come!

We met at church, that would be our most common link. She and I have been friends since 2001. Love to laugh together, listen to each other, get honest advice, raising children together. Our husbands are friends too we have great times in each other’s homes over coffee or an occasional date out together.

I don’t think I really have a BFF, which makes me sad, but I have a few girlfriends I consider close friends. One I met at work (she no longer works with me) and we could be sisters–birthdays are 1 day apart and personalities couldn’t be any more alike; One I met through mutual friends and she and I get together regularly to do girly things (which I LOVE since I have 2 boys at home and no girls!); and the other 2 I work with. Never had close girlfriends growing up — was always more of a “hang out with the guys” girl.
