Fab Freebie: Bamboo-tiful

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

Who knew bamboo could be so beautiful? Well actually, the people behind Smock Paper did. They also know that bamboo is one of the most earth-friendly sources of paper out there. By relying on it, along with other recycled materials, and by incorporating other green practices into their shop, Smock Paper is truly a wonderfully sustainable operational located right here in the good ol’ US of A. Oh, and of course they make very pretty things.

Smock Cards

You may have already heard of Smock Paper from our monthly sponsor shout outs, and if so you probably remember them for their stunning letterpress greeting cards, party and wedding invites, and the like. Well they’re here this week to give one of you a sweet $100 shopping spree while introducing some new products to amp up your note-taking, gift-giving, and memo-jotting adventures.

Smock Jotters

Just like all of their other products, these colorful items come with an eco-tastic spin. Like the memo pad above whose letterpressed bamboo cover protects 90 sheets of 100% post-consumer recycled paper. Or the cube of 700 sticky notes below that also comes from recycled paper.

Smock Memos

While those items could dress up your office nicely, they’ve also got graphic beauties like double-sided wrapping paper, gift bags and even gift boxes that all boast punchy designs on recycled materials that would certainly dress up your next gift or look great in your home office.

Smock Boxes

Now let’s get on to how you can enter to win:

  • PRIZE: $100 towards anything on Smock Paper’s website
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BAMBOO ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …since Smock makes items to help you keep notes, why not share your current note-keeping habit with us. Do you keep a pad on your desk to jot down phone numbers or random thoughts? Do you keep some scrap paper in your purse just in case? Or are you high tech and rely on a voice recorder or phone app to help you remember stuff?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 1st at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States AND Canada!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…

    BAMBOO ME (but be gentle).

I am a journalist by trade so I take notes all day all day. Despite having a reporter’s notebook on me 24/7, I still doodle notes and reminders on my hand. But I’ve upped the ante to writing little abbreviations on the top of my hand by my thumb. For example, “BB” jogs my memory to remember my Blackberry charger while also looking like a cute little deco tattoo.

    Bamboo Me!

I’m really scatterbrained and kind of forgetful, so I make lists all day. I have a whiteboard on the side of my fridge where I jot down groceries as they run out (along with a honey-do list of sorts), a small notebook in my purse and another one in my bedside table.

    BAMBOO ME!

I’m a combination of low and high tech. I have a teeny handmade notebook in my purse, which has little jottings like the measurements of the space in my living room in case I ever find a desk I like, or the phone number of a restaurant I want to try. I also keep a plain text file saved to my computer desktop which has my to-do list on it, and as I work I delete things and add more.

I take note on a note pad, trouble is I have 3-4 or them floating around at any given time so I tend to loose them. On occasion I do remember to take notes on my ipod touch.

I am all about running lists on legal pads—I have everything from misc. thoughts to vital information about my job in any given legal pad. At home, I use the backs of old receipts, old envelopes, and any other previously used paper to make to-do and grocery lists.

I keep a pad of paper in the car, on the coffee table, and the fridge for any random musings, ads I hear/see, things to look into or research next time I’m near the computer, etc. I also have a very important planner that various items for research, restaurants to try, things to buy or remember, etc. also goes into! If all else fails, hopefully the hubs remembers!

BAMBOO ME! I have small decoupaged spiral bound notebooks in my purse, my nightstand, and on my desk to jot down any notes, lists or ideas. The one in my purse also has the measurements of projects I’m doing so that if I run across possible materials, I can use my clipped on measuring tape and never miss out.

On the side I have marked off a section for my “to-do” lists, a section for “spiritual thoughts”, a section for “recipes”, a “design” section, and a “reference” section. After years of trying all sorts of methods I have found something that finally works! This is my third year with a book like this and each year I get to start fresh!

Currently, I use a small wire bound notebook to keep my musings and reminders…I can’t stand tons of small pieces of paper floating around in my purse or the kitchen counter or the end tables, so the book works best for me! Besides, if I write on a post-it or something, it immediately gets lost.
