Fab Freebie: A Taste Of India

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

We’d heard of the “slow food movement” before, but not the “slow clothes movement” – until this week’s giveaway sponsor reached out to us. Saffron Marigold creates luxury Indian linens, and they make each tablecloth, bedspread, curtain and pillow cover very meticulously (both to safeguard traditional techniques and deliver a high quality finished product). Just think, all of these patterns have been meticulously hand-printed inch-by-inch using traditional woodblock techniques in Saffron Marigold’s Indian artisan studios. Pretty fantastic, eh?

Saffron Table Cloths

And this week TWO of you are going to have a chance to enjoy TWO pieces of these slowly and beautifully made linens in your home. Each winner will get their choice of a lovely tablecloth or table runner…

Saffron Table Runners

…and their choice of a gorgeous and graphic cushion cover.

Saffron Cushion Covers

And while you’re over on their site browsing their stunning designs, be sure to check out the photo slideshow of their time-intensive process which details how they create all the unbelievably intricate patterns. It will truly give you an appreciation for the craftsmanship that went into these prizes. And you’ll also soon get to appreciate a sweet discount they’re dishing out (stay tuned for those details on Thursday).

Saffron Process

So here’s the gist:

  • PRIZE: Your choice of any  tablecloth or table runner from Saffron Marigold, plus one cushion cover.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “MARIGOLD ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us something that you feel is always better when you take your time. Maybe you agree with the slow food or slow clothes movement? Or you prefer to give lots of time to painting or a DIY project? Perhaps you’re just a slow and very careful driver?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, June 9nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the WORLD!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

    MARIGOLD ME

I always think that cooking should be done slowly. For me, anyway. I don’t want to rush and end up poisoning all my nearest and dearest, do I? :P

I like to have my morning coffee slowly. Take my time to relax and plan, and not yet be distracted with all the responsibilities awaiting me.

I know this sounds simple, but I like to take my time when reading things that are for enjoyment. My job requires reading toms of less-than-exciting documents, so when I actually have a chance to sit and read for pleasure, I have to turn off my “scan mode” and take a moment to refocus and really read and digest each word. It makes the experience so much more rewarding and relaxing.

I always try to take my time eating breakfast in the morning. It sets a tone for the day, and reminds me that although there may be many busy things ahead in my day, there is ALWAYS time to slow down and appreciate the little things.

Lately, I’ve been taking my time climbing or descending stairs. Not my choice, just carefully climbing or descending with a 2.5 year old who pays more attention to everything else than the task at hand!

The best way to go to sleep is to take it slow. We get ready and hop into bed, then snuggle for 10-15 mins before turning and going to sleep. In the morning we do it again. Both my husband and I love to take time to talk about the day’s plans in the morning and to recap in the evening.

Marigold me! Wow – these are stunning. I think something that is always better when you take your time is Saturdays. I have a tendency to want to cram everything I’ve been wanting/needing to do all week into that one day so I can ‘rest’ on Sunday, but all it does it start my weekend off at a frantic pace. The day is best enjoyed slowly, lazily and peacefully!

Marigold Me, please. Those prints are fabulous! And I’ve been looking for a few months now for a perfect tablecloth, oh how lovely it would be. Although I think many things are done best while taking time, painting (furniture) is one thing I’ve learned I absolutley can not rush. I’m so impatient though, I’ve cut back, big time.

I would have to say two things:

    1. Taking my time when being thankful: I try to take my time when thanking someone for things they’ve done for you.

    2. Planning – especially meals for the week – when I take my time – I don’t carry the stress of “what’s for dinner” with me all day.

I tend to multi task all the time except when I go for a walk in the evening. Then it is no music, no talking, or anything else except listening to the birds, crickets, and wind which calms me down and allows me to put everything that happened during the day in perspective.

    MARIGOLD ME!
These fabrics are absolutely gorgeous and I love that they were made by a slow hand-stamping process. My husband and I bought a print a few years ago made by a man in our home-state of NH who follows the traditional Japanese woodblock printing technique to make his art. We visited his studio and learned about the painstaking months-long process of creating the original drawing, then carving separate blocks of wood for each color that would appear in the final product. It’s a gorgeous print, made all the more precious to us by the time we know was spent creating it.
That being said, while art is a great thing to take your time on, I think the thing I most like to experience slowly is a candy bar. I don’t let myself eat them all too often, so when I do, I eat them one layer at a time and savor every second!

I learned the hard way to take the remodeling process slow! My husband and I bought his bachelor pad and floated and retextured all of the walls. I was in a hurry to prime anad paint. I guess I didn’t wait long enough for the walls to cure because the paint began to bubble up and peel off! It was a disaster and I had to do it over again. Lesson learned = Have patience and take is SLOW!
