Fab Freebie: A Taste Of India

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

We’d heard of the “slow food movement” before, but not the “slow clothes movement” – until this week’s giveaway sponsor reached out to us. Saffron Marigold creates luxury Indian linens, and they make each tablecloth, bedspread, curtain and pillow cover very meticulously (both to safeguard traditional techniques and deliver a high quality finished product). Just think, all of these patterns have been meticulously hand-printed inch-by-inch using traditional woodblock techniques in Saffron Marigold’s Indian artisan studios. Pretty fantastic, eh?

Saffron Table Cloths

And this week TWO of you are going to have a chance to enjoy TWO pieces of these slowly and beautifully made linens in your home. Each winner will get their choice of a lovely tablecloth or table runner…

Saffron Table Runners

…and their choice of a gorgeous and graphic cushion cover.

Saffron Cushion Covers

And while you’re over on their site browsing their stunning designs, be sure to check out the photo slideshow of their time-intensive process which details how they create all the unbelievably intricate patterns. It will truly give you an appreciation for the craftsmanship that went into these prizes. And you’ll also soon get to appreciate a sweet discount they’re dishing out (stay tuned for those details on Thursday).

Saffron Process

So here’s the gist:

  • PRIZE: Your choice of any  tablecloth or table runner from Saffron Marigold, plus one cushion cover.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “MARIGOLD ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us something that you feel is always better when you take your time. Maybe you agree with the slow food or slow clothes movement? Or you prefer to give lots of time to painting or a DIY project? Perhaps you’re just a slow and very careful driver?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, June 9nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the WORLD!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I’m told I take too much time doing just about everything! Guess that happens when you’re a perfectionist. My latest “slow” endeavor has been our vegetable garden. We wanted to do everything environmentally friendly and organic, so we hand dug our beds (tilling year after year destroys the integrity of the soil), started all our heirloom plants from seed, and built our own fence using trees from family property so we wouldn’t have chemicals from treated wood leaching into our garden. I’m happy to report that our seedlings are loving their new outdoor beds, and our “no-till” method has left us with weedless beds! Definitely worth the extra time and effort.

Marigold me! I like to take my time preparing when hosting an event. I have come to realize that it is a lot more fun to plan, purchase, and cook if possible slowly over a couple of weeks before an event vs. trying to pull everything together at the last minute!!

Loving the blue and brown tones together. We recently moved into our new home, and I’ve been doing a lot of blues, greens, browns and tans together. Very calming.

As for something that should be taken you’re time-finding the right furniture for your house. You shouldn’t just buy something to fit a space-taking your time ensures you will really get what you want, and something that will look great in that space!

This is my very first time entering one of your freebies. Its not that I don’t like free things; I just haven’t taken the time to enter. Maybe I should slow down and start entering these. Hmmm…

Other than that, I’d like to slow down my brain sometimes. I tend to come up with ideas more quickly than I can execute them. You both are very good at taking one project at a time and I could definitely stand to take a cue from you.

I love those fabrics. We collect a lot of Indonesian art. My favorite thing is the two story space above my main staircase. We have about 45 or so masks hanging there from all over the world.
I think anything worth doing is worth doing right and often the best things, my favorite things, are done nice a slowly. Sometimes when creating something with care and thought, be it taking time to paint a room or cooking a meal make the end result some much more meaning full and special. Fast is great for some things but there is something said about going thought the motions that , that hard tedious process that make the end so much more rewarding and fulfilling.

I think traveling is always done best when you take your time. Don’t try to cram too much into your itinerary. Take your time getting there too. Train travel is a totally under estimated mode of transportation. So it takes 2 days to get from Chicago to Seattle instead of 3 hours. You get to sit back, relax and see parts of the country you didn’t even know existed.

I recently took an Ethiopian cooking course and the instructor explained that she normally cooks the one onion on low for 6 hours. the entire class gasped and murmurred things, “who has time for that,” “can I at least go clean my bathroom during that time, or do I have to stir constantly.” She had us try two versions of the dish – one she made while we were there in class and another where she had the 6 hours to cook the one onion before adding the rest of the ingredients. The 6 hr onion cooking makes all the difference – hard to believe they were even the same dish.
